College has ended, its time to go in to the “real world”. As every girl knows that means getting your
first big girl job, and as every girl also knows this is a rollercoaster ride
of an experience. Every emotion happens,
but when that call comes in that
you are officially an employed big girl, not
much compares.
1. Walking into the interview like "Yeah I'm cool, I've got this. They can't say no to me."
2. Only to walk in and see some big wig bosses and realize you are way over your head.
3. But then you pull yourself back together, because they ask you "What would you bring to this company?" And you quickly remind yourself and them that...
4. And after them not totally agreeing, like your friend did when you practiced this interview, you realize it's time to be honest...
Employer: "Why should we give you this opportunity?"
Your response:
5. Then they write a few things down, and you're sitting there smiling thinking "c'mon people, look at this smile, how could you not want to hire this face."
6. And then they drop the bomb..."We'll let you know."
7. Now for the next few days you are reliving every answer you said, and debating if you did things well enough, while remembering all the things you forgot to say.
And at the same time you're trying to convince yourself you were perfect and they'd be crazy not to hire you while simultaneously telling yourself how stupid you are and you better start applying elsewhere because there is no way they are going to hire you.
8. And everyone keeps asking you if you found out about the job and making nice when you say "not yet," which is worse than when you go home for the holidays and your grandparents ask you about a boyfriend.
9. And then it happens... the phone rings... "Oh my gosh it's them, what do I do? Pull it together, play it cool, but what if I don't get the job, this is awful, they're calling to let me down, I should screen it, no I have to pick it up, okay deep breath, play it cool."
10. And let the pacing begin... again.
11. And then that miraculous moment, when the boss says "we'd like to offer you the job."
12. But you've got to keep your cool to respond, because you're now a mature, employed adult.
13. You're getting a paycheck now, you've got a big girl job, you're making it in this world... you call all your friends because...
14. And of course you have a great night celebrating, and buying rounds of shots, because again, you're an employed, mature, grown up human being.
15. And on the first day of the job, you're ready, and you go in there ready to be a big girl, and make that office all yours.
Yep, you've done it, you got yourself a big girl job and have officially become an employed, mature, and basically awesome adult.
