The 10 Stages of Being Home From College

It's a rollercoaster of emotions

The 10 Stages of Being Home From College
Business Insider

Coming home from college I've definitely noticed that I've gone through different stages of emotions and actions. I remember during finals week, the only thing that got me through was the thought of going home. But now that summer is half way over, all I can think about is going back to school.

These are the stages that I have either experienced, or expect to experience:

1. Pure Excitement

You're happy to be home; back with you're family, with your friends, and your pets. You're happy for school to finally be over and have your own bed, in your own room. And most importantly: you get to consume home-cooked meals again.

2. Recovering From Finals

After a week of pure mental torture, it's time to sleep a few days away. Those few days back are full of lounging, sleeping, and being an absolute bum. Not only do you sleep, but you eat everything and anything you want considering you survived off of caffeine and whatever you could find in your room during that last week.

3. Catching Up On Netflix Series

Considering that last week was too crammed with studying, you weren't able to get in your weekly Netflix. So of course it's only necessary to binge watch every Netflix show you like.

4. Hanging Out With Every Friend Possible

No matter if the last time you saw them was during finals week or last summer, you're going to hang out with every friend you have. The endless dinner dates, parties, and hang outs you have within the first few weeks back will be more than you have for the rest of the summer. It's always an awesome time when you are able to catch up with your old friends and share all of the funny, and probably not-so-appropriate stories.

5. Realizing How Much Weight You've Gained

I mean lets be real, the freshman 15 might not be the truth. But gaining weight is almost inevitable while in college due to the crappy food you ate all year.

6. Working Out As Much As Possible

Once you've realized how much weight you've gained, you immediately start to work out and eat healthier. Granted these workout sessions will probably last two weeks tops. At least our intentions were good right?

7. Realizing How Pale You Are

After being stuck inside and (if you're in any northern state) in the cold, you lost all of your tan. You resemble a ghost, so the only right thing to do is scorch your skin in UV rays to get a tan. And nothing is better then seeing those tan lines.

8. Looking At Your Bank Account & Realizing You Need A Job.. Or Three

After spending a little (WAY) too much money this year, you have about 3 dollars to your name. And once you've realized you threw your money away on late night munchies and unnecessary things, you want to run to the nearest place that's hiring.

9. Realizing You Worked Your Summer Away

You have about a week left of summer, and you're having mixed emotions. Working full time has consumed your summer, and you have barely been able to hang out with your friends since those first few weeks. Now with that week you have left, you try to do everything on your summer bucket list.

10. The Mixed Emotions Of Going Back To School

No more late nights, no more home-cooked meals, and no more family and friends time. But you're going back to school where you get to see all of the friends you have made and you get to make even more memories. The last few days of being home are emotional, but going back is beyond exciting.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
