There are so many reasons to be thankful for spring, especially when you’re a college kid. Winter is all fun and games leading up to Christmas and New Years, but when the time comes to return back to school from break, we are completely over winter. We begin dreading any outdoor activity and start counting down the days until spring. When the groundhog didn’t see his shadow this past groundhog’s day, we rejoiced. The absence of his shadow simply means early spring to most, but it means so much more to college students. And here are the 11 reasons why:
1. Outfit variety.
During winter, day in and day out, girls in college adopt to an inherit dress code: leggings and a parka. It’s not like we want to make people think we only own two items of clothing, it just happens. The cold makes us unmotivated to do a lot of things, including changing up our look every day. Even if you have a cute shirt on underneath, no one will ever know because of parkas, so you lose either way. With warmer weather comes variety. We are no longer limited because of the cold and can chose to wear a multitude of different outfit combos that shy way from the winter “parka and leggings” look.
2. No more just wearing boots to parties.
In winter, we basically can only wear boots. Boots suck. Its really not fair to our other shoes to give boots so much attention. They’re literally all we are able to to wear in winter. Sure, we can change up the variation of boot (riding boots, botties, etc.), but that’s nothing compared to the flip flop, sandal and wedge collection we all own and can flaunt in spring.
3. No more walking to class in the cold.
4. No more sweating in your layers.
Because the thought of going outside in the morning is unbearable, we stay in our bed as long as we can. When we finally get the motivation to leave our dorms, we have to legitimately book it across campus. This causes us to arrive to our class with an uncomfortable amount of sweat under our parka. You become hot on your way to class and immediately strip down to your t-shirt once there. But not with the arrival of spring. In spring, you no longer need to bundle up then strip down in class. A t-shirt is perfectly acceptable for both your classroom climate, and your commute to class.
5. You can drink iced coffee without being judged.
I am a complete iced coffee snob, and I know I’m not the only one. Iced coffee just feels more like a treat and getting a venti hot coffee just doesn’t feel as good as getting a venti iced one. With warmer weather comes no judgment of your coffee choice.
6. Hammocks.
What better way lounge and soak up the sunshine than to lay suspended between two trees.
7. Campus gets a whole lot prettier.
Campus is in full bloom and trees no longer look sad and naked. Walking from class to class is just a really nice visual experience during spring time.
8. You’re in a better mood.
Something about sunshine and warm weather just makes you feel good. Spring brings positivity, and the world just seems like a better place when flowers are blooming and birds are chirping.
9. What do you wear to a party in 20-degree weather?
Please someone tell me. We all have experienced the struggle of wanting to wear a jacket to a party, but knowing you’ll just get hot at the party and take it off. And let's be serious, if you leave your jacket at a frat house, do you really think you’re going to ever get it back? So instead, we all are forced to put on jeans and a summer-ish shirt and just suck it up when we have to walk to our rides in the freezing cold. In spring, shorts and a tank top is A-OK for both the walk to your ride and the party.
10. Spring break!
Need I say more?
