As the summer approaches, the fun at UVA only ramps up. From formals to philanthropies, to Foxfield, the end of spring semester cannot be beat. Though finals are looming on the horizon, it’s pretty hard to imagine they are real among all the fun. Plus, you have had all year to solidify your friendships. Ever heard the expression “good times, Go Hoos?” This expression is derived from this unforgettable time of year. The last statement may or may not be true, but it definitely should be. Grab your pals and have a good time before the semester runs out.
Formals
There is nothing better than putting on a suit (or dress, for the gals reading this) and heading to a vineyard with your best friends and y’all’s dates. Formals are a great time to get away from your hectic life at UVA and have a night you will never forget. You know there are bound to be a ton of great stories coming out of these nights. There is something magical about formals. The combination of great food, best friends, amazing music, and maybe even bringing your crush make formals unbeatable. Don’t forget to take those sunset pictures. By the end of the night, you’ll be looking forward to next year.
Philanthropies
Philanthropies are a lot of fun for everyone involved, except for the directors. They are a great way to give back to the community that makes UVA a great school to go to and they also bring people together for some lighthearted fun. Chi O’s Golf on Grounds is one of my personal favorite days of the year. Chi O sets up a little golf course in the gardens and the sisters caddy as people play the course with tennis balls. The weather is always beautiful and it is a lot of fun hanging out with your friends and family. All the philanthropies are great, though, so be sure to check them out.
Foxfield
Foxfield is just a grand ol' good time. College students from around the state show up for this horse race. Organizations, fraternities, and sororities rent plots for the race. It’s great fun visiting the different plots to see all of your friends. Girls wear sundresses and floppy hats and guys dress in pastels, everyone is looking great. Unfortunately, Foxfield occurs the weekend before finals begin, so make sure to start studying early. However, you definitely can’t miss out, and all of your friends will be there.
The last month of spring semester is my favorite time of the year, along with Fourth of July and St. Patrick’s Day. Spring fever is real here at UVA. It’s hard not to smile on a beautiful spring day, walking by the Lawn, seeing everyone lounging, reading, and throwing Frisbees. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else this time of the year. I’ll leave y’all with this: good times, Go Hoos.
