Spring break can be a wonderful time. It is a time to get away from the stresses of school and have fun and relax; however, spring break can also be one of the biggest killers of motivation. Having a week to get away from school and do nothing can be great, but there are people (including myself) who will feel like they just don't want to do anything anymore because they got some time off. Spring break is great at breaking up the semester, but that little bit of time off is a killer of motivation.
Normally, I am the kind of person that does not want to do anything on break. My favorite thing to say is "when I am on break, I am on break," which means that I don't want to be bothered with anything. And of course, there is always that one professor that has to assign some kind of homework over break, and odds are nobody is going to do it until an hour before it is due. Usually this person becomes one of the most hated people on campus for assigning homework over break, because of course nobody wants to think about doing any work until they get back to school.
When I get back to school, I keep thinking back to break and how I had a whole week to just sit around and do nothing. I just want that to continue forever and not have any more responsibilities. This is where the thoughts of dropping out of school and never looking back come in. Waking up for class on the first day back from break is killer. You lie in bed thinking about whether going to class is a good idea and usually drag yourself out of bed and to class, wishing you were away on vacation again. The reality of having to be back in class hits you like a punch in the face, and you just don't want to do anything anymore.
Spring break is a great time to be able to get away and have some time off and to take some time for yourself, but remember, it is only a break. So treasure your time away from the stress of school, because once break is over, it is back to reality (and endless amounts of studying). But remember this, summer is only a few weeks away!
