10 Things That Happen The Week After Spring Break

Emotions run high and motivation runs low.

10 Things That Happen The Week After Spring Break
Madeline Shore

The best week of the year is over. It's time to kiss spring break goodbye and say hello to the rest of second semester. It's heartbreaking, but it's time to get back to reality. Here are ten things that will take place after spring break.

1. You go into denial

You can't even process the fact that you're back in your dorm room instead of eating hotdogs on the beach with your friends. You continue to tell yourself that you'll be back in a few days. Reality however sneaks up on you and slaps you in the face when you realize you have a paper to write.

2. Eating your emotions with all the food you've been craving

You've been eating so healthy leading up to spring break. Now that it's over you have no reason not to eat whatever you want. It doesn't help that you're super sad about spring break being over, meaning emotional eating is very real.

3. Trying to catch up on sleep

The past week you haven't gotten any sleep at all. Between the tight sleeping arrangements, staying out late and getting up early, you have had no time to rest. You swear you won't leave your bed for a week. This would probably become true if you didn't have a required lecture on Tuesday.

4. Your body hates you

You've gotten no sleep, ate complete trash and probably have a terrible sunburn. Your body has never hated you more in your entire life. Hopefully in a week you'll start to feel normal again, but it's not looking too good.

5. No amount of showers is enough

You feel so gross from all the driving and constant chaos of the previous week. You've taken three showers but you feel like it still isn't enough. Maybe after shower five you'll start to feel clean again.

6. Your group chat from spring break is filled with reminiscing about your week

The week after you'll get a text every day that reads, "A week ago we were..." Your heart will break with every memory that's mentioned. While you sit in math, you think about how a week ago you were dancing under the sun with your best friends.

7. The inside jokes kept getting brought up

Funny pictures and videos will be sent in your group chat constantly the week after. The video of your friend falling off the banister is even funnier the third time watching it. Your inside jokes will be the main conversation topic everywhere you go, including the library.

8. You jam to the songs that were played on repeat

Whenever you hear Rolex, Mask off, Swang and Get Right Witcha, you feel as if you're instantly back in Florida. These songs will bring back flashbacks of your spring break vacation. Your friends will jam to them the following week and pretend that you're still on break.

9. There's no motivation to do anything

You sit in the library and cannot accept that you have to do work. You have no motivation to even lift your pencil. This might lead you to ordering a pizza in the library rather than doing the reading for your test you have coming up.

10. You cry while looking through your camera roll

Looking back at pictures and videos makes you smile but also very sad. You would give anything to go back and relive the previous week. You realize that you must accept that instead of laying under the sun, you're laying in your dorm room bed.

Now that spring break is over it's time to push through to summer. RIP Spring break 2k17 and let the countdown to next spring break begin!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
