Spotify has been one of the best inventions to enter college kids' lives for a while now. The music platform gives us access to any kind of music from hip hop, pop, all the way to some oldies. Spotify allows us to save songs that we like into playlists, just like if you were to make a playlist on your iTunes account. Also, we are allowed to listen to music for free with a few commercials here and there. Most people will follow their friends to see what they are listening to and kind of give you new ideas of artist and songs that you might like.
Not only do you have your friends that you can follow for new music, but every week Spotify will generate a Discover Weekly playlist specifically tailored for you. Spotify will take into account music that you have already saved on your profile and create a medley of songs you may like. For the most part, it will be all new songs that you may never have heard while sometimes Spotify will throw in songs that may be totally different than what you usually listen as it adds a variety in the playlist.
Not only do they have the Discover Weekly playlist to look forward to, but you are able to search all different playlists to quench you thirst for music. Spotify has categories like acoustic, party, study time, chill, and more. You can go through whatever you are feeling and the app gives you a list of songs and artists that you can listen to in just one click. Spotify is kind of like Pandora, but the beauty and huge difference between the two is that if you are not enjoying the song you are listening to, you can skip it and you can keep skipping songs until you find one you enjoy. Instead, Pandora only allows so many skips before you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can skip again.
Spotify also offers the top 50 songs globally, in the US and virtually. So if you just heard this awesome song on the radio and you did not catch the name of the song, you can go through the charts and more than likely will find it. The charts also help you keep updated on what is popular and what everyone is listening to at the moment.
I would not be able to get through college without Spotify. It has helped me on all my late night study sessions when I just want to listen to something different than what I have on my iTunes. It has given me a study distraction when I want to find new music and new artist. Or if I like a song by an artist, it has allowed me to find other songs by that artist and dig deeper into their tracks. If it was not for Spotify I would not appreciate artists like Hoodie Allen, Andy Grammer, American Authors and even Ed Sheeran. Spotify has introduced me to a whole other side of the world of music. So to all of those who do not use Spotify, I do not know what you are doing because it is the only way to go.
