Thomas Hammer Coffee Roasters

With many locations around Spokane, Thomas Hammer has a wide variety of signature drinks in addition to well-brewed classics. The shops are cozy, the perfect blend of comfortable but modern.

Petit Chat

With large comfortable chairs, plenty of seating, delicious baked goods, and coffee; you couldn't ask for a more charming spot to spend a rainy afternoon. Plus, on Wednesday afternoons Whitworth students can get 15% off. Wanting more than just your typical coffee shop? Petit is a full bakery, serving lunch and some alcoholic beverages in addition to their bread and dessert selections.

Rockwood Bakery

Located on the South Hill near Manito Park, Rockwood Bakery is an older house turned into a cafe. The scones are to die for and pair well with one of their beautiful lattes. Breakfast and lunch options are also on the menu.

Service Station

The Service Station is a coffee shop and auditorium. The spacious cafe has a quiet atmosphere that is great for studying.

The Gathering House

Combining a church, a coffee shop, and a small concert venue, The Gathering House is a large, open cafe. The numerous tables provide lots of space for studying, the baristas are very friendly, and their parking lot behind ensures that you can find a space on an average day.

Rocket Bakery

With three locations, Rocket Bakery is always a solid choice. I've only been to the Argonne one, but I would bet the others are good as well. The Argonne Rocket Bakery features two rooms, so if you're seeking a quieter environment, you can escape the sounds of espresso and steaming milk. They also offer a variety of lunch options.

Atticus

Located in downtown Spokane, Atticus combines a shop with books, PNW trinkets, and coffee or tea supplies, with a coffee shop. Unfortunately, the seating is limited and the shop tends to be on the noisier side, but the espresso is great. In my opinion, Atticus is a better place to catch up with a friend than to study.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
