Spending A Summer At Home Is A Good Thing

Going home for the summer gives you time to relax, save money, plan, and spend much needed time with your family.

One of the things that most people in college look forward to is getting away and being on their own in the world. We have the freedom to make our own decisions and free to go where we please.

However, most often, students will begin to experience homesickness. It is not expected, but it is only then when we realize how much our homes and families meant to us.

Spending some time at home during college years isn't all bad. In fact, it is much better than what most people would think.

If we spend another summer in our hometowns, we would already be living in a familiar place. You know all of the fun things to do, the best places to eat, and the people of the town. You also know the places to look for jobs and opportunities that will benefit you later in your career. You can also ask friends of yours to see if they know of anything that is available.

You can live with your parents. While you do probably have to help clean the house and do chores from time to time, you can live without paying rent and there will always be food in the fridge. You also begin to realize that you miss your family more than you expected.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to go home for a bit. Be thankful to have a nice home and family to go to. Take the time to spend more time with the family and tell them everything that happened to you at college.

Living at home would also allow you to save some money. College will drain your money away even if you work and have scholarships. It doesn't hurt to save a couple of extra dollars, especially over a period of time where you can make a nice earning.

Also, since you are saving money on rent and food, it means that you have more money to go have some fun.

If you spend another summer at home, you can catch up with all of your friends. Believe it or not, it is hard to stay in touch with everyone once you all leave for college. You all scatter across the country like cockroaches and you all get into school.

There are things you have to sign up for, jobs to find, exams to study for, and so many other responsibilities that it becomes harder to stay in touch with everyone. The summer allows you to reconnect and catch up on everything going on in life

Having a summer at home allows you time to plan out the next year. Maybe you want to travel or change your major. The summer allows you time to do all of the planning that is necessary. You also have time to relax.

The school year is busy and there are times when you do need a break. It could be a nature hike or a day trip downtown, taking some much needed time for yourself.

Going back home isn't all bad. There could be a lot worse situations. Instead, you have the time to relax and save money. It also gives you a new perspective on your family who you've come to realize how much you have missed.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
