So many students are past spring break, already back in work mode for the second half of the semester. For the lucky students at the University of Delaware, however, break is only just beginning. The excitement around campus is everywhere with people making last minute plans to go to Miami and Punta Cana, or anywhere with a beach and some sunshine. Sadly, not everyone is lucky enough to fly away to some resort for the next seven days, but a break spent at home doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it’s the perfect time to relax and congratulate yourself on surviving the first seven weeks of spring semester. Here are a few ideas on how to do exactly that.
1. Go for a spa day.
This is much needed after the stress of exams and the recent snow storms that are making spring fever that much harder to contend with.
2. Start that book.
The one you’ve been meaning to read for months, but haven’t had the time. Between classes, dages and binge watching "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia," reading “for fun” never quite makes it to top of your priorities. Now's the time to make it one.
3. Go to the movies.
“Beauty and the Beast” is finally in theaters, and with all the free time you can go see it like you planned. It’s the perfect excuse to eat junk food and forget about the fact, for at least a few hours, that you’ll be piled with work again in another week.
4. Go crazy with GOOD food.
Embrace the fact that your parents are buying groceries and that you're surrounded by cupboards full of food instead of tiresome dining hall food. As much as you might want to eat healthy in preparation for that “summer bod”, spring break is the time to eat whatever you want and eat as much as you want to make up for the disgrace that they call food in college.
5. Spend the weekend away.
No, it’s not the same as a week of booze and bikinis in Key West, but it’s definitely cheaper and any chance to get away even for a short while is worth it. Maybe you live near New York or feel like driving to the nearest beach now that spring has finally begun.
Wherever you go, simply getting away can make all the difference.6. Visit a friend you’ve been missing.
With the late date of UD’s break, most of your friends from home have already begun the second half of spring semester and spring break is becoming a distant memory. Take advantage of the fact that they’re back to doing work to spend a weekend visiting their school and judging whether their parties live up to the ones at Delaware, and of course they won’t.
Most importantly, ENJOY your time off. Spring break will fly by, so don't waste your days away sleeping in until 12 o'clock. Take advantage of the fact that you don't have to worry about emails from professors or work your schedule around other people's plans for the next 7 days, and have fun because summer is still two months away and for now, this is the best we can do.
