When summer comes around, you're ready for a tan on the beach, reading books on the porch and basically doing things that don't relate to school.
But not your summer before senior year at K college.
Say goodbye to having a summer like you used to, and begin to like the following things as your new hobbies:
1. It's time to plan your entire schedule for senior year.
Why? Because you're crunched for time. You have 3 quarters / 30 weeks / 9 classes separating you from graduation. However, now it's the time for you to be sure that you have (or will have) all your credits, and that you declare any new majors or minors. Basically, it's a time to figure out every logistical detail so you can graduate. Fight tooth and nail to transfer credits, or complete your major with limited class spaces because chances are those classes will not be offered again. Do you even want to take your MCAT? GRE? LSAT? Why do we have to take standardized tests again???
2. It's time to think about your life after college.
Say hello to thinking about adult life, where your parents will start calling you on a weekly basis just to talk about when you're going to start researching for graduate programs or jobs, and what you want to do with your future. Hopefully they will be nice enough to send you names of potential companies to apply to, but won't realize that this is just another stressor being added into your life. They also won't realize that you have no clue about what comes next.
3. OPT
If you're an international student this is your biggest nightmare. If you're not a STEM student, this sucks for you even more because you don't get as much time as they do. It takes money, time and a lot of paper work. It's just another hurdle to get through.
4. Resume.
Just update it. Perfect it.
....or finally make one.
5. SIP. Everything this summer is about your SIP.
For science kids, you're gonna spend your entire summer from 9-5pm in a lab. For political science students, you're gonna travel to countries and write about their political systems and societies. For history, business, economic and all other subject SIPs, you will spend time with your head buried in books researching your topic, or planning out elaborate, beautiful performances to present. You are expected to not procrastinate, and to work hard so hopefully you have an almost finished SIP when you start classes in the fall!
HAPPY SUMMER SIP TIME
P.S. Rising seniors, you are all welcome for this summer to do list.
