Surprised? Don't be. "South Park" is hands down one of the most important television shows to come out of the United States since...EVER. Season after season, episode after episode, the ideas and opinions expressed may be wild and extreme, but deep down every aspect of this show is important.
Matt Stone and Trey Parker, just two normal guys from Colorado, decided to team up one day and begin work on what would soon become the most offensive show ever shown on television. From 1992 to 1995, Matt and Trey made little videos that went on to become viral, which eventually created a starting point for the series. August 13, 1997. A day that will live in infamy. Matt and Trey's dream came true. Fox aired the first ever episode of South Park. Episode title: "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe." Now I'm sure you're thinking to yourself, "Why is that so important?" Well.... it's not. But what they communicate throughout future episodes is.
Each episode is created within seven days. That means they can keep up with current events going on around the world. They have creative minds being up-to-date with current events and making episode ideas. In the wake of Donald Trump announcing his run for President of the United States, the South Park team knew they needed to have a say. In the episode "Where My Country Gone?", the town noticed more and more Canadian residents living in the area. When the residents asked what happened, they were told a crazy man decided to run for President of Canada. He wasn't a respected man and people took it as a joke. The joke went too far and by the time every one realized what was happening, he was already elected into office. Hmm, sounds eerily familiar - the character described looks very similar to Trump.

Despite what many people believe, South Park is great television, and if you aren't watching or don't agree, well you're missing out.
