Moms are some of the most amazing people we know. They do a whole lot for us every single day. If you are anything like me, you depend on your mom for almost everything, especially emotional support and decision making (who says we need to be adults?). I’ve read a lot of things such as “A Thank-You Letter to My Mom” and whatnot, but I think it’s time for a ''sorry" note. I am thankful for everything my mom has done for me, and I should tell her that more than I do. However, I know she continues to make sacrifices for me and I would like to apologize for all the things she has had to do for me.
I’m sorry for nine months of physical pain that you had to go through (especially while taking care of Paul and John at the same time). I’m sorry that you gave up your career to raise us (Paul should actually be sorry for that one because he is the first born, but I’ll take the blame as usual). I’m sorry for all the late nights I’m sure you had when I was a baby. I’m sorry for asking you to sleep in my doorway when I was a child because I was so paranoid. I’m sorry for throwing a fit when I didn’t get what I wanted. I’m sorry for not taking your advice as much as I should have back in the day (you were right, by the way, … about everything). I’m sorry for not always sticking with things and for not believing in myself when you believed in me. I’m sorry for being a sass master when you were only trying to help me with homework (especially math … ew).
I’m sorry for taking my bad moods out on you when all you do is try to make me happier. I’m sorry I made you listen to my problems when I’m sure you had enough of your own to solve (not that you had a lot of problems, but you know what I mean). I’m sorry for calling you every three hours when I got to college to tell you how bad I felt. I’m sorry for dumping my decisions on you and expecting you to always have the right answers (well, you always do). I’m sorry if there was ever a time I made you cry. I’m sorry if I ever gave you the idea that any mom was better than you because that is nowhere near true. I’m sorry for anything and everything.
The funny thing is, even though I am apologizing for all the things I’ve put my mom through, I know she doesn’t want my apologies. I know she would do it all over again just for me because that’s the kind of heart she has. She is beautiful, selfless, never fails to put me in a good mood, and even when everything is going wrong, she finds beauty in our family, our home, our dog, and all those who love her.
My mom made me into the person I am today, she’s one of the reasons I have a faith life, and she has pulled me out of the worst situations. I may have a lot to apologize for, but my mom looks past all of my faults and only sees me as God truly made me: another beautiful human being in the world. So don’t forget all that your mom has done and continues to do for you. She has chosen life for you and I can’t think of a better reason to love her than that. Thank you, Mom, and even though you don’t want to hear it, I am sorry.
