Dear Mommy,

As I'm growing older and am trying to figure out what exactly I want to do in this world, I have found myself reflecting a lot more than I ever have. I've been making all these adult-like decisions, learning about my new big girl job and living on my own, but sometimes, all I want to do is turn to you for help. Maybe not even turn to you for help, but just turn to you for a hug, because no matter how terrible or fantastic of a day I have, your warm embrace always seems to make me happier than anything.

I want to share with you a few things that I have thought about, and say I'm sorry for some of them.

1. I'm sorry that when I've had a bad day, I stupidly take out my anger and impatience on you when we're on the phone

But thank you for being so understanding all the time.

2. I'm sorry that I don't get to see you more than I do

But I'm training to be as kick-butt of a woman as you are.

3. I'm sorry that I probably won't look as hot as you do when I am your age

Just so you know, most women your age probably envy you for that.

4. I'm sorry that I don't always listen to you when you give me advice

Because you are always so spot on, and of course I don't realize that until it's too late.

5. I'm sorry that I have such a massive shopping problem

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree though, right?

So, while I've been thinking about all of this and compiling this list of apologies (which could go on for a very long while), I've also been thinking about how you deserve so much more love and adoration than anyone has ever, will ever, or can ever give you. You are the single most amazing woman and person I have ever met, and even if I spent my entire life trying to repay you for all that you have done for me (which I will), I would barely scratch the surface.

But in the meantime, I am going to give this life all I've got and not let anything, or anyone, stop me from getting to where I want to be — just like my mama taught me.
