Jessica,
I'm glad you're proud of being a size 00. I'm proud that you feel comfortable in your own skin, but saying that there is skinny shaming but no fat shaming is totally wrong and misguided. Blaming Dove for the cause of this is also misguided. Look back at all the old Dove ads, before their new campaign, and you'll find that all the models there are in fact a 00, just like you. Most products, be it beauty, clothing, or hair all have models who are the same size you are proud to be. But the large difference between most of them and you: they are unhealthy. They promote an unhealthy lifestyle. There is a fine line between being a healthy and skinny and being unhealthy and sadly, most models are on the unhealthy end of that line. 40% of models have eating disorders. That's a pretty high percentage when a lot of young girls look up to these women as role models. They should be promoting how to be healthy.
You don't hear the other side of the shaming because you're not overweight. You don't understand what it's like to not love the body you have because everywhere you turn, you see photos of models much smaller than you. You don't know what it's like to hate having to go shopping for clothes because all the models and even the displays are small and it makes you feel less of a person because those clothes will never look good on you. Most of the clothes we see at stores are only made for skinny people. You don't have to worry about what people may be saying behind your back as your shopping, picking out clothes you hope will work decent enough on you.
You make it seem like the only body type the media is showing are women who are on the larger scale, when it's the other away around. Many companies are now including different body types because no one is the same. And they want their product to be used by all. Not just the skinny girl they have pictured.
In 2013 Urban Outfitters come out with a shirt that read "Eat Less" across the front of it. This shouldn't be something that is proudly sold. Actress Sophia Bush spoke out against this shirt and the company for promoting use a harmful way of life.
This is all coming from a girl who has battled with her weight for years. It took me years to overcome my body image problems that today's society put upon me. I use to hate how I looked. I hated shopping because everything was geared towards the girls who didn't have meat on them. I was bullied for some of the things I wore while in middle and high school because sadly, what was considered 'cool' to wear at that time wasn't made for a girl like me.
The one thing I agree with you on is that we all need to learn to love each other. Everybody is different. And we should be loved for those differences because if we were all the same, life would be boring and those differences make us who we are.
