18 Steps Of Being A Sorority's Executive Officer

Once I pledged myself as VP of my sorority, I had no idea how much hard work, commitment, decision-making, and coffee would go into being on my sorority's EC. Being on the EC for a sorority has a lot of perks and opportunities, but, of course, there are moments that make us question our own sanity. I compiled the following list that accurately explains being on the EC for any sorority, no matter the letters.

1. You're elected, and it's like: YEAH! I'm so excited for this opportunity.

Nothing can go wrong.

2. Learning who the rest of the officers are for the year and looking at each other like "Oh yes."

Can't wait, you beautiful souls. We're going to crush it.

3. Your first EC Meeting has you all giddy and excited to start the new year off right.

You're more hyped than when Fall Out Boy announced their return from hiatus.

4. Realizing you have to present every week in chapter.

This includes but is not limited to: having to speak publicly, shower and do your hair, look cute, and also keep 115+ members' attention while you discuss the points system. Again.

5. Having a member ask a question on a topic you just explained.

But you smile and pretend you didn't see them on their phone during your presentation.

6. Walking out of EC Meeting at 11:15 p.m. when you have an assignment due at 11:59 p.m.

7. "It'll be fun," they said.

It doesn't take long for you to realize that they were lying.

8. Your phone is constantly going off with GroupMe, text, email, and Facebook notifications.

You've never felt so popular in your life but your phone is now permanently on silent. Because you do, after all, have a lot of other things to do. Not that it feels that way.

9. Because there will be a moment when you realize you eat, sleep, breathe, and live your sorority.

And that moment will look something like this:

9. Watching your blood pressure and stress levels climb.

You try to calm yourself down, like "knock it off, heart, I don't have time for you to be messing around with pressure and other nonsense!"

10. When you finally get five minutes to be on the phone with your mom and she asks how you're doing.

11. Advisors/ELCs/Anyone on the outside: "Why are you so stressed? Why would you think this position is paid? Why don't you get enough sleep?"

12. When you realize how much coffee you've actually consumed in the last 24 hours.

13. Family: "What do you mean you don't have more time to come home?"

14. "When was the last time I actually washed my hair?"

15. When members ask why I haven't answered their text message and email about points that they sent three minutes ago.

16. Forgetting your coffee when you leave your house the day you have class, department meetings, EC meeting, and an advisory meeting.

This is it. This is how I die.

17. You'll happily hand over your binders and information to the next lucky soul following in your footsteps.

No matter how much blood, sweat, and tears you've put into your office.

18. But, in the end, I promise you you'll be sad to leave office and will be grateful for all of the experience you have gained.

Let's be honest, you left a part of yourself (or at least your soul) in your position.

Being on a sorority's EC is difficult, terrifying, and stressful, but it's also a privilege many girls could only hope to have. Through the ups and the downs, it helps you grow as a member of your chapter as well as a human being. It truly is an incredible experience that I absolutely adored and encourage everyone to try to take advantage of!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
