Sorority Recruitment: Told by 'The Office'

Sorority recruitment is more serious than you may think.

You're probably thinking, I already thought that it was serious. Well, it is even more serious than that.

There are so many things that go into making recruitment run smoothly that you have no idea about until you have actually done it yourself.

From outfits, to table cloths, to pick ups and stop watches, it's hard work.

We spend countless hours practicing the same things over and over again until it is nearly perfect in order to recruit the best pledge class possible.

We laugh, we cry, we fall, and we get up. It is as painful as it is comical. Here is recruitment as told be the office:

Getting back to school, you cannot contain your excitement when you see your sisters.

It is the first day of work week, and your recruitment chair tells you that you will be going from 9-9 everyday.

How you feel about practicing the same chant over and over and over.

It's outfit check time and you get told that you have the wrong shade of coral and you're like:

It's day 5 of work week, and you swear if you clap one more time you are going to lose it.

But you forget about all of that on Sunday because recruitment is tomorrow and you're like:

How you feel when the first party starts on Pan day:

After 20 parties in two days, this is how you feel:

It's been a long and hard two weeks, but it's finally Preference day, and you cannot wait to share your sisterhood with all of the potential new members.

Today is the day! It's bid day and you get to welcome home all your new babies like:

It may suck at times, but nothing is more rewarding than putting in all that time and effort and in turn, adding on to your sisterhood with a new pledge class.

Who can't wait to meet PC 16?

I know I can't.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
