Pratt has sororities and fraternities? Yes! You've heard that correctly, Pratt has Greek life! Why haven't you seen us around, you ask? Pratt Institute is already a small school with about 4,000 students, so the Greek community is smaller than typical large universities. The Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Pi Sigma Chi Fraternity, Theta Phi Alpha Sorority, and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority make up Greek life at Pratt.
With my big <3
I joined Sigma Sigma Sigma, also known as Tri-Sigma, fall semester of my sophomore year in 2014. When I first heard about Greek life, my RA freshmen year (who is now my big) was wearing her letters at our first floor meeting. I knew it had to do with a sorority but I didn't know what it meant. I didn't go to any of the info nights because I was too shy, but I really wanted to go because I wanted to know what Greek life was about. A few people from my major went through recruitment freshmen year and seeing them participate looked like they were having a lot of fun. I decided too late to put myself out there to participate in recruitment. Spring semester freshmen year I went through recruitment, and I wasn't able to join because Tri-Sigma had already met their total. But finally sophomore year, I went through recruitment again, the new member process, and finally got initiated!!!
Bid Day Fall 2014
Even though I did not join freshmen year, I remember the members of Tri-Sigma would always say hi to me on campus and invite me to their events. I could tell right away that they were a close-knit family. I wanted to be a part of it, and to them, I already was. Being an active member of the Pratt community is the basis of Greek life. College is tough, and especially Pratt, but putting time to spend with other students at Pratt and the Brooklyn community can make your college experience more memorable.
Panhellenic Field Day Spring Greek Week 2015
Pratt doesn't have Greek row, or houses, and honors Pratt's hazing policy of zero tolerance. Because we are so small, you really get to know everyone in the Greek community. Yes we have great connections to jobs, yes we pay dues, yes we wear Greek lettered shirts, but because of all of this I have great relationships and leadership skills. Because of joining a sorority, I've gotten to be multiple officer positions which I've never had experience in before. I have gained sisters not only in my chapter, but alumni, and nation wide as well. The bonds that I've developed I will take with me forever in my life.

Breast Cancer Walk Pratt Greek Life and C-Board Fall 2015
If you're thinking about joining a sorority, definitely push yourself to find out more from other people's experiences! Chances are you already know someone in a sorority or fraternity and don't even know it. You can find the Greek advisor in Chapel Hall 007 with any questions you have. Participating in the events on campus run by Greeks is a great start getting to know them.
To be up to date with Greek events, "like" the Pratt Greek Life Facebook page or follow on Instagram @pratt_igc. This week is Greek Week!!! All the events are open to all Pratt students and this year is Halloween themed, so come out and meet us! GO GREEK LIFE!!
