For the first time in a while, I opened my iTunes library instead of Pandora to listen to music, and I felt as if I time traveled back to 2006.
These songs that were released while I was an awkward, young teenager placed images of locker-lined hallways in my head. While I have very little desire to ever go back to middle school, I have to admit that these songs are still pretty great, and I found myself singing along just like when I was 13.
1. ‘Low’ by Flo Rida
Who doesn’t love the boots with the fur?
2. ‘Gold Digger’ by Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx
Pre-Kim Kanye is the best Kanye.
3. ‘Candy Shop’ by 50 Cent
As middle schoolers, did we really understand what they lyrics were saying? Doubtful.
4. ‘Fergalicious’ by Fergie
If you knew the rap part toward the end, you definitely had your life together.
5. ‘2 Step’ by UNK
Cue memories of your awkward middle school dances.
6. ‘We Fly High’ by Jim Jones
You know you want to do the basketball throwing hand motion.
7. ‘Grillz’ - Nelly
And then everyone made grillz out of gum wrappers.
8. ‘Bad Day’ Daniel Powter
Doesn’t this remind you of when someone got sent home on American Idol?
9. ‘Promiscuous’ by Nelly Furtado feat. Timberland
Just like ‘Candy Shop’ we probably didn’t know what it meant, but we sure though we were cool singing along.
10. ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’ by Evanescence
The ultimate song for everyone’s ‘emo’ phase.
