A lot of the music that I listen to are songs about happiness, love, and life struggles. I’m somewhat of a sap when it comes to music, but I love when I feel encouraged or moved by it. So, here we have my personal list of songs I think everyone needs to know.
1. Before You Start Your Day by Twenty One Pilots
This song makes me sad, but I relate to it in a lot of ways. It’s about how we all kind of hide behind these masks, hiding who we really are or how we really feel. You try to make everything seem perfect and wonderful all the time, when in reality, it’s just not. Everyone is struggling with something and everyone needs to overcome something. We need to remove the masks, and come to terms with ourselves and reality.
2. These Times by SafetySuit
A song about tough times trying to define who we are as people, smothering who we want to be and getting us down. It’s like when you feel like garbage, but sometimes you feel like you shouldn’t feel bad because there are people who have it a lot worse, yet you still feel bad, and feel worse for feeling bad because it could worse for you. But you have to understand that a lot of these feelings are justified, and like all times, they will pass, and you can get through it.
3. Shake it Out by Florence and the Machine
One line in this song always catches my attention and gives me a gentle reminder that it will be okay, because “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” Even if it feels like your life is falling to pieces in the moment, you have to keep looking forward because the light is coming, just stay patient. There is so much good in the world, even though it often gets covered by the awful, we just have to find it.
4. Who You Are by Jessie J
This song is a reminder that you don’t have to fit in to be amazing. It’s hard to believe sometimes, and I’ve definitely been there. Who you are is worth it, even and especially when you’re not just like everyone else. Because we can’t be everyone else, we can only be ourselves. Everyone is unique and wonderful as they are.
5. Lovely by Twenty One Pilots
This song has wormed such an important place in my heart. I love Twenty One Pilots and have for a few years now. This song has helped change how I see myself because we, as people, find ourselves prone to spitting out nasty things about ourselves, but not understanding how lovely and wonderful we are to others. We see all of our own flaws and rarely anything good about ourselves, whereas others are more likely to see all of our beauties. So, here’s a reminder to stay lovely, my friends.
