My next song for this series is "Brother" by NEEDTOBREATHE. This band is a Christian rock band and they have a southern sound to them. At first, I presumed they were a Southern rock band with Christian inspiration. I was all but exactly correct. They are southern boys singing about the God they love and playing the music style that they enjoy. I have nothing against that. In fact, I say, sing away! This song was recommended by one of my readers, so I couldn’t let them down. So, here it is, "Brother" by NEEDTOBREATHE.
I am going to break it down. Not too much, but enough to get the gist. The first set of lyrics are talking about how we are rummaging around in this wilderness of a world and how it would be better if we had someone there with us. The chorus gives you the feeling that the lead singer sees someone that needs help, but is refusing. So he is asking him if he can be his brother and help him out. To be his caretaker, if you wish. From what it seems that the verses are the young man wandering in the wilderness and the chorus is the man who is trying to help this wanderer. Because the verse states that the young man has his feelings locked away in a cage but when he feels the essence of brotherly love, he can open the cage again. So he wants that cage opened. Then the song keeps repeating the chorus.
From what I get from this song is that we can’t do this alone. That we all need a brother or a sister to help us get through our own wilderness. I completely agree with that because I have always needed the help of someone else. Even when it looks like I have all the pieces. Even when it looks like I am well put together. I got to that point through the help of others. Now it’s my turn to be a brother to someone else. And, oh, what you can learn from being a helping hand to another. Life is a learning experience and we must struggle through this life together. That’s why there are billions of people in this world, so that we can help each other. Thank you guys so much and have a great New Year!
