The Song That Sums Up [Most Of] The College Experience
Jenifer Wilkes

A few days ago I was driving down the road with my little brother. My rule in my car is the passenger is the DJ, and if anyone knows my little brother, you will know that sometimes that can be a scary thing. We get to this one station and a song comes on, of course we both are singing at the top of our lungs, and then its over. I look at my little brother and say "you know, that pretty much sums up most of the college experience." It's so true too, it sums up the majority of college. So what song is it?

Well, the song that sums up (most of) the college experience is...drum role, please...STRESSED OUT by Twenty-one Pilots. For those of you who may not know this song, or are struggling putting together how it sums up the college experience, I'll break it down for you!

I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink, but now I'm insecure and care what people think.

When I was younger, I was told I would not be scared of near as many things, but let's face the facts, I'm nearly 20 and sleep with a nightlight because I am scared of the dark. Most college students I talk to have some sort of fear that they've had since they were little, and new ones come up as well, which is totally OK. I don't know very many people who come in their freshman year not freaking out about if they picked the right college or not. As far as being insecure and caring what other people think goes, this is most freshmen. They come in at the bottom of the totem pole. They are still stuck in high school wanting to be the most popular person, and that's okay as long as after their freshman year they realize its a complete waste of time. Most people come to this conclusion by the middle of their first semester. Truth is, it doesn't matter what others think, and at college, if someone doesn't like you, there are at least another few thousand people to choose from to be friends with

Wish we could turn back time, to the good 'ol days.

OK, so let's all close our eyes and think back to elementary school when our biggest concern was if we were going to make it to the swing set before someone else. Isn't it nice? College students tend to look at it on a different level, back when we had minimal responsibilities and all that good stuff. Some days, I definitely wish I could turn back time, then I remember "oh hey, the good 'ol days are still to come."

We're stressed out.

I just...there are no words for how this sums it up. Just, if you don't quite understand this yet, oh, believe me, you will.

Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young.

I can not even count the number of times I have been with friends and a smell, or something else, will lead us into stories of when we were younger, it happens.

Out of student loans and tree house homes we all would take the latter.

Again, not many words. Let's be real, student loans get expensive really quickly. I don't even want to think about how much I'll owe by the time I graduate. And then there's the whole tree house home thing. What could be better?! I mean, come on, NO BILLS!

"Wake up, you need to make money!"

Let's just look at the last statement if we need to figure this one out...we have loans to pay back and bills to pay. Plus in college, it seems like your bank account drains itself while you sleep. You go to sleep pretty sure you still have plenty of money and wake up only to find you have a total of 25 cents. You have more money in your piggy bank at this point.

#Adulting. It's never fun, but it happens, and unfortunately it has to be done. Thankfully though, in college you don't have to completely adult just yet! Like I said, this just sums up most of the college experience, there is still more to go, and it is actually more fun than I am making it sound. Some of my favorite memories are on nights when I was hardcore living in denial that I would fail if I didn't study or do my homework. It happens.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
