For those of you unfamiliar with this quote or book title above, let me enlighten you. This is a book that is sweeping the nation (and filling it with tears) as it works its way to becoming a movie. The book—again for those of you unfamiliar—is about a girl named Louisa and a man named Will. This isn't your run of the mill fall-in-love-and-live-happily-ever-after books. You see, Will, a man who was once full of life, took exotic trips, and conquered the business world, is now a quadriplegic, permanently stuck in a chair with no hope of recovery.
Louisa on the other hand is a shy girl going about life the way she thinks she's supposed to. Louisa is in need of a job, and takes a job being a caregiver and companion to Will. Through this experience, Louisa tries to show Will all that life has to offer, while at the same time Will is trying to do the same for her. While he may now be confined to a chair, she is confined by only herself.
This book, like many others, has sent me into a spiral of inspiration. If you're an avid reader like I am, you know the feeling. Every time you finish a book, you set it down and see the world a little bit differently. There's a knot in your stomach the size of the great state of Texas and your mind is screaming: "Do something! Just got out and do something!"
And maybe that "something" is sharing your thoughts with others in the form of an article, or maybe it's taking your dog for a walk because it's nice outside.
But this time, that feeling has inspired me to try and do more. This book takes you on exotic adventures that make you realize all of the places you have not yet seen. And so this book made me realize that sometimes I forget to live. Yes, I'm alive and I'm breathing, but I could be doing more.
I could be screaming my lungs out as the rollercoaster takes a loop upside down, or awing the beauty of a sunset over the beach. I could be zip lining through a rain forest, or going for a walk through the trees.
I want to take this moment to share that inspiration to do something with you. I want to take a moment to ask you to think about your biggest dreams and aspirations, because as terrifying as it sounds, one day these are the memories you are going to have.
Believe it or not, this world actually has A LOT to offer. Literature, education, sights, foods—all things we're constantly taking for granted. Take time each day to think of something you're grateful for, and something you want to do, something you want to change.
A lot of times I find myself hating the fact that I have to go to classes, but other people are pleading for an education, other people are teaching themselves they're so anxious for knowledge.
Anyway, I'm probably getting off topic, but my point is to live, just live. Take weekend getaway trips, go see a movie that you might not even like, try that food that you'd probably never try otherwise, learn that language that you've always wanted to learn...
And of course, read the book that inspired this rant of mine, Me Before You. If you're not a reader, it's going to be made into a film so you can go see it. I'll link the trailer below:
