Being a fulltime college student, and working part-time, I never really get to cater to my passion for television as much as a want to. I know, too much television is not recommended, but I’m a pretty active person, and I spend much more hour exercising than I do watching television. I don’t get to watch often, but when I do, I binge. I tend to be very picky about what I watch. I like a laugh every now and then, but I’m not too big on comedy as much as substance and innovative plotlines. I have been very impressed with a few of the shows that I’ve decided to partake on lately. It's 2016, and I just want to reveal some shows you definitely be watching regularly by now.
The first show I’ve ever binge-watched was "Breaking Bad", and boy, was it worth it. An extremely thrilling and ground-breaking show, it will have you hooked from the very first episode. I know that sounds cliché, but trust me, there is nothing at all cliché about this show. The storyline is awesome and never loses any momentum throughout the series: When chemistry teacher Walter White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given only two years to live, he decides he has nothing to lose. He lives with his teenage son, who has cerebral palsy, and his wife, in New Mexico. Determined to ensure that his family will have a secure future, Walt embarks on a career of drugs and crime. He proves to be remarkably proficient in this new world as he begins manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with one of his former students.
The series tracks the impacts of a fatal diagnosis on a regular, hard-working man, and explores how a fatal diagnosis affects his morality and transforms him into a major player of the drug trade (IMDb). First of all, that is just incredible from a writing standpoint, kudos to those writers. Second, anyone with half a brain would be hooked to a show with this plot. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, the two main characters are incredible. Once the very last episode of the very last season ended, I was pretty upset. But the writing gods have struck and a sixth season is in the works. Walter White is not dead!!!
Another newer show, "Mr. Robot" is a must-see as well. Although the plots are completely different, this show is just as suspenseful as "Breaking Bad," if not more. This storyline might be a tad bit more twisted. I won’t give any details this time. I’ll just say that it’s about hacking. Not just any regular hacking story. It’s only in its first season, so it’s still developing as I speak, I watched all 10 episodes in one day, easily. I advised you to get on the bandwagon. You’ll never look at Walmart the same.
Lastly, on a little more relaxed comedy, "Master of None." It is one of the very few shows that doesn’t star a black or white male. The star is actually 30-year-old Aziz Ansari. What sets this comedy apart from others, at least to me is how authentic and organic it is. Watching the show, it doesn’t necessarily feel like a conventional show. It’s sort of "Truman Show"-esque. It just really has a genuine feel to it. This is also a newer show only its first season, so catch it while it’s still early. Even though it lacks in the suspense department, it makes up for with witty comedy. I highly recommend checking out "Master of None," "Breaking Bad," and "Mr. Robot." Very provocative and refreshing content! Please watch responsibly.
