Some Things I Have Learned From Volunteering At An Elementary School

When I got the email, saying that I was welcomed to shadow a teacher at a local elementary school, I did not know what to expect. I was excited to work with all these tiny humans, and I was amazed by how much this experience has taught me.

I am going to need some Vitamin C...

Everyone is sick, all the time. Five and Six year olds are not too keen on covering their cough either. So, I have learned to keep some hand sanitizer in every bag I own, some vitamin c in stock, and tissues ready and waiting.

Teachers Do A Lot On Their Own

Many teachers go out of their way to have supplies for their students. They buy a surplus of pens, pencils, paper, books, games... the list could go on. It shows they value their students and will spend their own money to provide for them .

There Is A LOT Of Dedication

I see this especially with working with kids in special education. They have so much heart and really try to learn and give it their all. There is a lot of passion because you will see kids keep trying and keep trying to do their best job and its so empowering.

It Takes A Special Person To Work With Kids

I am a firm believer that teachers are secret superheroes. Kids are hard to work with and even with the most difficult of temper tantrums, these teachers remain calm, cool, and collected. It is not easy and these people dedicate their who lives to helping these kids not only reach, but exceed their potential. I give these men and women so much credit.

She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
