Some Positive News Stories To Brighten Your Timeline.

It seems like there is always negativity on the news, and always something that the media wants us to worry about. But what if we turned it around and focused on the good, positive things that have happened in the world in the past week or so.

I am here to do that for you, in my article this week. I want to focus on the good, so we can live a happy life and put our best selves forward, instead of living in fear over the hate that is all over the news.

So here are some positive news stories that have been put out there recently.

1. An 8 year old named Nia Mya has already achieved greatness and wrote a best selling book called How to Deal With and Care For Your Annoying Little Brother. After a first grade assignment on what they excel in, she chose to write about this clearly how to deal with and care for her annoying brother. The assignment with the encouragement of her mother, became extended into a full blown best selling book. Pretty cool for an 8 year old.

2. A bus driver in Milwaukee took in a 5 year old boy who was wearing no shoes and summer clothes on a recent, cold, night. She brought him on the bus and gave him warmer clothes, and a snack while waiting for police. She tried to make him feel safe and comforted so he didn't feel overwhelmed in the situation. The police found out that he wandered away from home "by accident." This bus driver was only on the job for six month but said she was inspired by faith, her family, and being a child of God to do the right thing, and that is why she helped the little boy that night.

3. A 35 year old mother of three was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. She was told she only had days to live, and years later she is here to tell her story. Her faith is what got her through. She said medicine was giving up on her, but she prayed because she felt there was nothing else to do. She turned to her church, she turned to God, and in the mist of all the medical negativity, the power of prayer pulled through. The doctor's actually said "I never thought you would have made it." Her response? "I credit my recovery to God, 100 percent." If that doesn't give you positive motivation, I don't know what will.

4. A mother and son in Wichita Kansas installed a "blessing box," outside of their home and it took off. The boy fills it up with canned goods, dried noodles, soap, toiletries, and etc. The sign on the box says ""Take a blessing when you need one. Leave (a) blessing when you can." It is accessible any time of day, and it is teaching them to be give back each and every day.

5. A firefighter is being called a hero, and refusing an award, because as he was walking through the woods he spotted a family's lost, beloved, blind dog. He carried the dog over his shoulders out of the woods, and brought him to the vet. The family was contacted, and offered him an award which he refused saying "he was just happy the dog was safe."

So instead of thinking of war, and violence, and all of the negativity that goes on, maybe it would be helpful to think of saving dogs, and blessing boxes. A little bit of kindness and positivity goes a long way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
