Your first week of the semester is what sets the tone for the entire year. Do it right so that you can be the best student possible.
1. Pre-buy all of your books.
Don't wait until after you're already at school to buy your materials. Buy all of your materials before you get here so that you are prepared. And definitely buy the books- don't just rely on Sparknotes.
2. Explore Campus.
Definitely do this if you are a first time student. It's better to have a good idea of the layout and not have to worry about being lost on your first day of classes. Even if you are a returning upperclassmen, you should refresh your mind and really get back into your college mode.
3. Go to class.
You are paying for an education. Don't waste your money by sleeping in. The first week is super important for getting to know your professor, don't miss it.
4. Don't skip meals.
Whether you are stressed out or afraid of sitting alone, don't let it stop you from eating. You need food for energy and so your mind can actually function. Eating is a definite must.
5. Review your syllabuses.
Reading through the syllabus tells you all of your important information, like projects, papers, absentee policies, and just what your professor is like overall. It's better to start school off by knowing what to expect than just taking it as it comes.
6. Find a study space.
It's so important to find a great place to go to study throughout the year. It's never to early to early to find a place to go when you need to get a ton of work done. It's better to have a location decided on beforehand instead of when you actually need it.
7. You don't have to dress super fancy for class.
First impressions are important, but that doesn't mean that you have to show up to you 8:30 class with full contouring and a long dress on with matching heels. Everyone is tired and freaking out about the first day, they won't care what you're wearing.
You've got this. Just take a deep breath and go for it.
