On moving out of socio-economic groups

Many people are unable to explore the world and its variety of places to offer. Some are unable to expose themselves to different environments because of the environment they are surrounded by. Most young adults in urban areas are reluctant to move out of their socio-economic groups for a number of reasons. People from urban socio-economic groups may be afraid of being judged by those in their environment. In many cases, they cannot step away from what they are familiar with and in some ways, their guardian does not give them the steps to anything outside of the neighborhood they reside. Socio-economy is the social science that studies how economic activity affects and shapes social processes. Additionally, it analyzes how societies progress, stagnate, or regress because of their local or regional economy or the global economy.

In many urban socio-economic areas, it seems that people are afraid of becoming successful because they do not want to be different from anyone else that surrounds them. Often, human beings in this generation have a tendency to be judgmental because they think everyone should be at the same level. Many people in certain poor communities find themselves unable to thrive from success because they are in fear of what their neighbors will think of them. In some urban communities, striving for success is not a normal route that people take because many are ignorant of the opportunities available to them.

Many people are under the impression that they cannot survive outside of the place they currently reside. Usually, urban socio-economic environments have cheaper housing and people have habits that are accepted. On the other hand, the government makes it difficult for people in poverty to move on, many of them are on government assistance and housing costs in safe neighborhoods are not affordable. These individuals seem to hold on to urban values to guide them through life. Certain beliefs that they possess forces them to settle in the environment they are most comfortable with. Many of the habits those individuals have are not acceptable in a setting other than the urban one. I find it weird that people let where they come from define who they are and will be in the future. People are comfortable with being another statistic in urban America.

Furthermore, every life lesson that is learned starts from within the household of a child. Many children who come from economically disadvantaged environments do not get the opportunity to be exposed to other places because of their parents. For instance, most of the parents are emotionally absent in their child’s life. Parents are supposed to be role models for their children and some are responsible for not opening their child's mind to think outside of the box. For example, most parents in urban neighborhoods did not receive a high school diploma; it is more than likely that their child will not accomplish that goal. If a child’s parents don’t care about where their child is at in life, the child will not know how to live a better life besides in the urban area. In certain neighborhoods, there are generations of families that reside in the area because no one in the family has been outside of the neighborhood to set an example for them. Many people live and act in a particular way because of the way they were nurtured.

Overall, low-income socioeconomic groups are at a disadvantage in America today. Many of the people are unable to leave their communities; the government makes it difficult for them and the way they are raised at home affects them. By people being incapable of leaving their socio-economic setting, it keeps them stuck in one environment, which causes others to stereotype the people from the less fortunate community. People from urban socio-economic areas are put into a negative category that makes them feel like they do not belong anywhere else.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
