Society Taking Away Their Own Rights ISN’T Right

If we let the government take away our second amendment, how long do you think it will take them to take away our first?

A mass shooting is when four or more people have been shot or killed in the same general location and time. As of April 3, 2018, there have been 58 mass shootings this year. Isn’t that crazy to think about?

I am pretty up to date on the news and still did not realize there had been that many! But, from the ones I have heard about, it seems like this year is a lot worse than others. I genuinely see both sides of this gun control argument, but I don’t fully support either side.

I personally have an open mind to everything, and I just feel that taking away guns altogether is taking more of our rights away. We were given the right to bear arms in the second amendment, and even though times may have been different when it was created, I believe we should not be fighting to take our own rights away.

I am not sure many people see it that way. I completely understand where everyone is coming from with the gun control argument. So many people, especially recently, have been affected by guns. They want to take a stand and stop it from happening.

What I don’t understand is why people think banning guns altogether is going to help this issue. If we let the government take away our second amendment, how long do you think it will take them to take away our first?

Drugs, like heroin, are illegal in the United States, but do you know how many people passed away in 2016 from overdosing on drugs? 62,497 people. More people died in 2016 from drug overdoses than in the Vietnam War. Now that’s something to think about!

Even though these drugs are illegal or some have restrictions on how to get them, the number of people passing away due to overdosing keep increasing. So is banning guns going to make a significant difference?

I do believe that the restrictions on obtaining a gun should be more strict and limited, but I just do not believe in fighting to take more of our rights away. There have already been so many instances where limitations have been put on our rights. Why would you want to continue doing that?

With the numbers of mass shootings increasing, we need to realize that we need to start changing the world as a whole. That is the problem! The world we live in is not a safe, happy place anymore. People are scared to go to big events that lots of people attend or afraid to go to school nowadays. That is not right.

We are the United States of America. We are supposed to be a safe, free country where people want to come to live and have a happy life. These are not people from other countries coming to attack the United States. These are our own people doing these things.

I believe in taking a stand and fighting for what you believe in, and I can see both sides of this argument. But are guns really the problem? Or is it really the world and society we live in?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
