Don't Let Society Speak for You

Blame society and not the individual.

The population on earth itself is incredibly huge and changing every single day. More or less of that population is female: from different backgrounds, ages, and all with a different story to tell. Each female has to learn to be strong in order to survive her world, no matter her age or background there is going to be at least one obstacle that she will be faced with. Every girl will be faced with insults and judgement from society, peers, and/or strangers for every part of her life. Now this isn't to say that the males in the world don't face the same hardships. Plenty of them do. Society doesn't just ruin the female population, it ruins the population in general. Most of the hardships an individual will face will happen during their teenage and young adult years, the years that will make or break a person.

Instead of starting with virgin shaming/friendzone shaming and then jumping to slut shaming; it should just be called female shaming. Society as a whole is to blame for this, and many individuals and groups have tried to stop girl shaming for centuries. Books, song, movies, and other forms of media have been written to try and stop the world when it comes to girl shaming. Even so, it is the twenty-first century, and there are still cultures in which it is almost a sin to be born female. For so long females have been fighting for equality, but equality won't come without respect. Through recent decades the female population has gotten more respect from society since the times of pastoral farming.

Just a few of the ways that females are cut, pushed, and put into a little box are through their looks. Girls are told to always have a smile on their faces and to never show any signs of weakness. This contradicts how society views most of the female population, especially on the younger side. Most females are seen as being in need of protection. It is common for females to be seen as smaller, weaker, and more naive. Compared to a male, a female can be much smaller and weaker, that doesn't mean that anything at all is wrong with her. Because of biology and the different purposes of the male and female body; the strengths are going to be different.

Body shapes are going to be different between male and female; and then one female's body will differ from another, the same goes for males. Males are meant to be lifting and carrying things or people, biology makes it so the muscles are stronger in their torso and upper chest area along with their arms. Whereas females are meant to carry the generation, giving the strength in their lower abdomen, legs, and hips. It isn't fair for society to tell a male or female that they are not the right body type, that they aren't attractive. Now with that said, it also isn't okay for society to tell males or females who receive a lot of attention (at least half is not asked for or wanted) that it comes with the price of being pretty.

Society is the enemy of body image issues and the conscious mind. It is only because of society that the need to put everyone into a small box is there. Instead of thinking about all of the negative aspects of an individual's body, think about everything that makes that person special. A person's body isn't a temple; it's a library. A person's story can be told on their body, inside and out.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
