As women in today's society we tend to undress ourselves as a blank canvas for society to decide what they believe is beautiful. They chip away here or there and eliminate little pieces of each of us. You are either too skinny, too thick, too round, too tall, too short, too dark, or too light. The list is endless. We as women hate our self when we look in the mirror because of how society tells us how we are suppose to look. Then, at the end of the day, we are left here allowing all these judgments to seep into our minds.
Why are we as strong beautiful women allowing this to happen? Why do we base our whole life on theses judgments? Why don't we fight back and love who we are?
The news papers and the specialist say we think this way because we care so much about how we present our self. They say the answer to this question is vanity and we will never be happy with ourselves.
I believe differently, I think from a young age we are taught to sit, smile and behave. All the while we have to present ourselves to society as they see women, flawless. There shall never be one single scare, stretchmarks, sun kiss, or hair out of place on you when society places you under their microscope, or you are seen as a flawed diamond in the rough. No one wants to searches for our love. I believe from a young age we doubt ourselves due to the judgment and opinions that are passed on to us from the people, tabloids, and news papers around us.
From a young age, I bet every woman can remember all the women we look up to and believe was priceless, a beauty from birth to be torn down and picked away at. This left a scar in our world we knew from that point that one day we also would be picked at and torn down. We then take these demons and pass them down to our little sister and daughters creating a never ending cycle. This very cycle has destroyed the bond between women for years.
So today I have a challenge for all the beautiful women in America. Here it is, let's break the cycle, let's stand arm in arm and celebrate our differences. Stop all the media wars over who is the most beautiful, who fits the mold best, or whatever the hell we fight about and instead stand together. Let's wake up every morning and kick the self doubts and tell yourself how truly amazing you are. Let's teach our daughters, sisters, cousins, and friends that no matter their size, color, race or background they are all beautiful. Let's support and encourage one another as women. Let's say no more to society and their opinions.
So, to every woman reading this article, you have a choice to fight back against society and celebrate women. Go to every media source you have and chose your favorite selfie and tag it #saynomoresociety #weareallbeautiful.
And never forget, we are all born beautiful, flawless, unique individuals no matter what society tells us.
