How Social Media Killed Our Kindness

Even with the benefits of social media, sometimes the bad weighs out the good.

This article I am going to be very, very honest. And I am not looking to offend anyone, but over the years of using multiple social media sites and apps, lately, it has been harder to want to go on Facebook, and Twitter. The reason so is that living in the digital age, social media isn't as crucial for our existence, the reality is too much of a good thing that can prove to be destructive.

Someone who is on social media a decent amount, it's getting harder to enjoy the benefits of social media because as the positive advantages of the internet decreases, the negative parts increase that include online bullying, making threats towards others, and not respecting the opinion of others. Now, I am not saying that people should necessarily stop expressing their views on social media, but with the latest news covering some pretty controversial topics to discuss, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are less about connecting with others, and fighting back and forth instead. Let me be clear: EVERYONE living in this world has the right to disagree, and express their own views, but there is a fine line that is crossed these days that our children are growing up in, and learning from their superiors... us. Expressing your own views online is fine, but there has to be a line of respect for others, even if you have your own views, doesn't mean it's necessarily right in someone else's eyes.

Children these days use social media as their platform for getting "in". It matters what you post, when you post, and how you post it. They've learn to define people by their Facebook posts, and how many instagram likes they receive, and that's not okay to think raising our children this way is acceptable. They learn to solve conflict completely behind screen, and not in person, and that's the sad reality of today's generation. They block each other in spite, have Twitter fights, and anonymous messages to other kids.. BULLYING, that they learn from their parents, older friends, family members, etc. They use these sites to manipulate, and show off their own life rather than to encourage, and connect with their friends, and be interested in what their friends are talking about.

Like I said, I am not trying to discourage anyone from expressing their views, but calling out anyone and everyone expressing views whether if it will be about a celebrity, or this years presidential election, there is a way to get your point across, AND be respectful of others. Just because you are behind screen and out of site doesn't give you or anyone the power to say things that ruin the whole point of social media. Our younger generation is learning more that social media is a way to get in, be popular, and that ruins their kindness.Social Media is about connecting with friends, and family, posting new and old photos to remember memories, and keeping up with others live, and learning from others. But if we continue this pattern of judging others for what they post just because their views are different from ours, what is the whole point of social media?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
