Social Media In Real Life

What would it be like if social media truly was our lives?

Social Media In Real Life

Social media is such a massive part of everyday life. However, it’s exactly that -- social media. What we do online and what we do in person are very different. It got me thinking about what life would be like if people were like apps. After all, we use it so much we may as well just be icons on our smart phones! If life was like social media there would surely be no dull moments. Let’s go on a journey of technology coming to life…

1) Facebook

Imagine that whenever you saw someone, you can see every part of their life for the last 6 or more years. It would definitely take away the tediousness of getting to know someone. You could see all their random thoughts, pictures, likes, and friends. You'd know them like a family member in 5 minutes!

2) Twitter

Twitter has a 140 character limit per tweet. Imagine having to cut off what you were saying because you ran out of words. Also, there would be hostages used in normal conversations. Conversations would be only based on whats trending. You'd have hundreds-millions of people following you around everywhere. You’d want more people following you, especially celebrities. It sounds really creepy now that I’m really thinking about it.

3) Instagram

You would need to take a picture to say anything because any conversation would need to be based off of a picture. Also anyone would be able to see what you were talking about and we’d care way too much about people liking us. There would be too much double tapping for personal space ever again.

4) Snapchat

First off the person would disappear after 10 seconds. It would be much easier to forget what you were talking about if you don’t get back to them immediately. Also the world would be very filtered with dogs, rainbow mouths, foxes, and more. Also, you’d never forget where you were because you’d always have geotags around. The date would also be easy to remember and you’d never have to ask what time it was.

5) VSCO

Much like Instagram, except even less explanation and much more filters. Life would be like a silent stop motion movie.

6) Vine

Everything would have to be done in 6.5 seconds. Basically our attention spans would be even shorter than they already are if we lived our lives like a vine. (#RIPVine)

7) Musical.ly

We’d be having conversations in only songs and not normal words. Also there would be many different angles and closeups of a person, probably ending up making you dizzy.

8) Pinterest

If you want your entire life to be an artsy DIY, you want your life to be Pinterest. If life was like pinterest we’d just be full of inspiring decorations and life hacks. But life would also be very frustrating because let’s face it, who can really figure out how to do half the things you see on pinterest?

Which social network is your favorite?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
