Social Media Frustration

Do less.

Let's take a minute to stop and think about how much of your day is actually consumed by social media. Probably a decent amount of your time. For what? Yeah it's beneficial to stay connected but do you really actually care what all of your followers are doing.

We spend so much time with our eyes glued to our phones and laptops, we miss what's going on in the world around us. We no longer just enjoy concerts, dinners and events without feeling the need to share it with the world. I bet the last concert you went to, you were probably watching it through the SnapChat video you were taking on your phone. We're all guilty of it.

Then there's the people that take it over the top. The ones that literally never put there phones down and no longer know how to interact in a social setting. It's embarrassing. There most likely the ones that when you go on Facebook you can count on them for liking every post on your timeline. You're scrolling down the page and it's like yup there's so and so, no surprise they spent their day on Facebook.

People think they need social media to stay relevant. All those likes probably make you feel like a better person right? That's the sad reality. We now live in a world where people actually measure their self-worth through likes. It's disgusting and I feel bad for the people who think that actually really matters.

There are two types of people; the people who have awesome lives and casually post about it and the people who have boring lives but try to make it look awesome through social media. New flash, you're not fooling anyone.

I could actually write a book in-depth on the laughable ways people use social media. We've got the people who are way too opinionated for their own good, the people who review every product ever used, the people who use it as a personal diary, the people who use it passive aggressively to express their feelings, the people who use it to write a freaking love ballad to their significant other...need I go on?

Honestly, my best advice...do less. Put all the devices away and go for an adventure. Stop trying so hard on social media, because in reality no one actually cares that much. Make experiences for yourself and just you. The whole world doesn't need to know. Also less time spent on social media, the less time for you to be annoyed by all the dumb posts on your timelines.

Look up from your phone and I'm sure you'll find someone this summer who likes you more than all those "insta" likes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
