Spring break is quickly approaching and soon you will actually realize how much you let yourself go during the holidays and winter season (if you didn’t, props to you but most people do). You’re easily able to hide any new fat around your stomach with those comfy sweaters and jackets, but come a month or so you’re going to be wearing nothing but a bathing suit in front of hundreds of other college students.
There are a few easy things you can do to get back into your prime shape for spring break, unless of course you’re going somewhere cold; you can just keep those layers on.
1. Go to the gym almost EVERY DAY.
This may seem like a daunting task, but its not actually as hard as it seems. You don’t have to overdo it. Do cardio one day and lift another. Even 20 minutes on the elliptical a day will help you so much more than you think. It's all about just getting active. If you can spare hours a day for Netflix, you can spare half an hour for the gym. Put on your gym clothes and then decide if you’re too ‘tired’ to go to the gym.
2. Eat healthier foods.
Stop getting fast food and junk because its cheap and easy, but put effort into making your meals, or choose the healthy option at dining halls. This isn’t saying go on an extreme diet, just try to eat healthier in general; and make sure you have cheat meals every once in awhile so you’re not depriving yourself.
3. Stop ordering those midnight snacks.
My roommates and I are some of the worst when it comes to this; we love our late night Benny’s or DP Dough, but sometimes you just have to stop and give it up so you can look great in that new bathing suit.
4. Don’t look at the scale all the time.
I didn’t believe this at first but once I started working out daily I could tell I was gaining muscle and losing fat even though the scale showed the same number. Muscle weighs more than fat, as most people know, but it's also a lot smaller area for the weight it is. You could be toning your muscles while losing fat but think you’re not making progress because of the number on the scale.
5. Try on your summer clothes every week or so.
You will actually see that you’re making progress and it will keep you motivated to keep going and not give up.
6. Don’t compare yourself to others; especially models.
Supermodels are paid to stay in shape and be healthy. It's true everyone has a different body type, so sometimes there’s no possible way to look like she does. What is important is to be confident in your own skin and be healthy.
These are just a few things to help you get in shape for spring break and keep you motivated to lose that holiday weight! Good luck!
