I will forever be grateful for the experiences that I had growing up in the North East.
Growing up, the first snowfall of the year was the best one! Usually happening sometime right after Halloween, the air got a certain smell. The brisk smell of snow. For the people down south, this is obviously a foreign concept to you, but trust me... us northerners worship this smell. This smell in the air means that fall is over. Officially time for winter.
As a child, winter means.....
Snowmen!
Making each one different, dressed in all of your favorite clothing.
Snowball fights!
God, these got intense... Especially growing up with older brothers.
Snowdays!
(And all of the weird rituals we had to ensure a snowday)
That call in the morning saying that school was cancelled was the biggest relief EVER!
Hot cocoa!
Mom calling you back inside to warm up with some hot cocoa was the best way to end the day.
Most adults dread the first snowfall. That just means having to warm up your car, brush it off, shovel the driveway.. Most things you never want to do. But, for children it means so much more. If you have a child in your life, may that be a family member, or neighbor, make sure that you go outside and play with them once the snow falls. It means more to them than you know. Just think back to how you felt as a child playing in the snow.
