Things You Should And Shouldn't Do On A Snow Day

Are the piling inches of snow keeping you indoors?

Things You Should And Shouldn't Do On A Snow Day
The Los Angeles Times

In the spirit of snowy weather and New England, this week I bring you a list of what you should and shouldn’t do on a “snow day.”

You Should...

1. Go Sledding

Throwback to when you were a kid and would actually look forward to the coming of snow. Sledding is a fun, carefree way to enjoy what is otherwise a pain on the neck.

2. Write Something

Does the snow have you stuck indoors all day? This provides a perfect excuse to bust out that essay or story that you know would have been due today had you been in school. If essays and reports don’t apply to you, write something fun! If it gets published, you’ll thank yourself later.

3. Skype Your Friends

Hey, seeing as they are probably stuck inside as well, you might as well. This way, you’ll have someone to talk to as you wait for the snow to pass!

4. Just Relax

It goes without saying how most of us are either working or studying day-by-day. Though it wouldn’t make sense to say “you earned it” here, give yourself a pat on the back anyway. You earned it!

5. Binge Watch Netflix

Hey, most of us do that already, sure. This just gives us an excuse to!

6. Make Hot Chocolate

Add some marshmallows, share some with your family, and it’s always a good time.

7. Catch Up on the News

Disclaimer: This doesn’t mean “believe everything you see on the news.” But it can always benefit to be aware of what’s going on around you. See it for yourself, don’t just assume everything your friends tell you.

8. Read

Read! Even if you hate books, find an article or magazine or something. It doesn’t have to be a novel, read the millions of articles on the internet like this one and the snow will have passed in no time!

You Shouldn’t...

1. Drive

Unless you absolutely have to because of work, driving in bad snow conditions is dangerous to both yourself and others. Save yourself the stress and stay off the roads if you can.

2. Go to a Grocery Store

Grocery stores are the worst place to be anytime near a storm, because right before and at the beginning of the storm is when everyone and their brother decides: “Oh, we have no food!” Avoid the chaos and check the weather in advance.

3. Forget to Shovel

I do this all the time. Here in New England, it turns to ice afterward and that’s not fun to try and scrape off of your car/driveway

4. Forget Those Gloves

Nobody enjoys having no feeling in their hands(though I’m not judging if you do for some reason). First and foremost make sure your hands are nice and toasty if you have to go out in winter weather.

5. Get Caught in the Snow

The worst time to be out is when a storm picks up. The roads have yet to be treated, and everyone's in a panic.

6. Leave Anything on the Street

This one’s from personal experience. The plows have to keep the roads clean, and I guess they either forgot to add brakes when they were designed, or the wrong person was driving that day. One plow sent my trash can flying onto my lawn. Trust me, the wrong person driving that thing and you’ll have to order a new trash can.

7. Lose Track of Time

Remember, you most likely will have to be back on your work/school schedule the next day. Don’t let the winter wonderland get you fired.

8. Fall While Getting the Mail

That wouldn’t be a fun time. Also, beware of flying trash cans.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
