Music is so ingrained in our lives that we probably don't even realize how often we use it therapeutically. There's a playlist out there for every mood, feeling, time, and type of day. It's great to wallow in those breakup songs and scream the angry anthems, but sometimes you need an uplifting beat and lyrics. Here are seven lessons to take from some positive tunes!
1. "You've got to get up in the morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart" - Carole King, "Beautiful"
Why? "People gonna treat you better. You're gonna find, yes you will, that you're beautiful." This song is a great one to live by. To go through life with a happy heart and lots of love will lift you up and everyone around you! Positivity is contagious, and a perky attitude attracts people who appreciate it. Decide to be happy, decide to be loving, and watch everything around you start to reflect that back.
2. "And just when I can't run this race anymore—sun bursts, clouds break. This is life in color" - OneRepublic ,"Life in Color"
Our life and our world is so colorful! Nature and beauty is everywhere, and it's just waiting to be discovered. Look up from your daily routines to notice all the colorful things in your life. There will be days when things get difficult, or maybe just mundane. Watch for a silver lining and appreciate the little positives because they add up to something beautiful.
3. "They'll turn you into something whether you are it or not. They'll never get you right . . . . The people passing by should tremble at your sight" - Brandon Flowers, "Never Get You Right"
This is so true. We're all our own person, and it's easy to let other people's opinions start to define you. The reality is that no one can touch you; you hold your own power in your individuality. No one else can ever come close to understanding the complexity of your vitality. So in turn, it's important to acknowledge our own unawareness of others' complete stories. Open your mind to others so they reciprocate, but be content and confident in yourself.
4. "If it's gonna be a rainy day, there's nothing we can do to make it change. We can pray for sunny weather, but that won't stop the rain" - James Morrison, "Please Don't Stop the Rain"
Sometimes all you can do is hope! There are going to be circumstances that are out of your hands, and you just have to wait it out. Positivity and an eye on the road ahead will be your friend. Take the rain as a challenge—or better yet, revel in it. Even better than staying positive is applying the mindset. Discover how a situation can better you, take the lesson, and run with it.
5. "And may your limits be unknown, and may your efforts be your own. If you ever feel you can't take it anymore, don't break character. You've got a lot of heart" - The Killers, "Be Still"
Own your attempts as much as you embrace your achievements. You are limitless! Believe in yourself even when others won't, despite mistakes, and in the face of hardship, watch yourself soar to new heights. A little heart can make for a lot of passion. You can only help yourself with that drive to keep pushing higher.
6. "'Cause even on your own, you are not alone . . . . Even by yourself, my love, you are something else" - Walk the Moon, "Portugal"
God knows we all have our moments when we feel lonely. As hard as it is to be left out by others, it is important to find solace in yourself. There's no need to rely on anyone else to bring the best out in you. Have some self-confidence and love and let it blossom! A person who exudes self-possession and is not going to be alone for long anyways, because people flock to those personalities. Again, a positive state of mind just triggers a self-beneficial cycle.
7. "You got one life to love what you do" - The Script, "Right for You"
At the end of the day, your decisions should be making you happy! There are too many good opportunities to seize, moments to share, and things to be to sit back and glide through a basic life. Find something positive in your day and make something positive if it's not already there. Every day is precious and has the potential for a whirlwind of beauty. Take each one and make it your own!
