Meet Esther Okade. Although she loves the movie "Frozen," and playing with barbie dolls, she is not your typical ten year old. Not by far. In fact, Esther has just enrolled in college at Open University, a distance-learning based college in the UK. She is currently the youngest person to enter college in Great Britain. There, she will be majoring in mathematics and plans to graduate with a PhD in financial math by age thirteen. Her intentions don't stop there however. By fifteen, Esther aspires to own a bank, in which she can help others handle their money.
Although this may come as a shock to plenty, it was never surprising for The Okades. Esther had a gift for mathematics ever since she was little. By age four, Esther was studying algebra and quadratic equations. Her love of math was so great, that she was begging to be in college before ever turning eight. She has even started to climb towards the top of her class, after receiving 100% on a test.
For many people, college students included, math can be a troubling subject. As it turns out, not only is Esther unbelievable at it, her six year old brother is showing signs of following in her footsteps. It sounds like the Okades may have the magical gift of math. Good thing Esther plans on sharing it! She has started to write a book called Yummy Yummy Algebra, for youngsters who want to learn just like her. This book will be one of four, and she hopes that the children will learn that they can be special too. Her parents plan on opening up a school for children, where they can teach each child the specific skills they need for a subject, not just acquiring certifications. It sounds like Esther and the rest of the Okades have a bright future ahead of them, many can't wait to find out just how big it is.
