On Wednesday morning, I finished my breakfast at the dining hall, and went to grab a piece of fruit before heading back to my dorm. Upon approaching the basket of bananas, I was greeted by a teeny tiny angelic little banana. It was love at first sight, and therefore I decided to document its (presumably short) life.
Small Banana and I made our way back to my room to hang out in between my classes, and when we got back into my building, SB informed me that an urgent phone call needed to be made.
After the call ended, Small Banana picked out a few vinyls from my collection to listen to, and I discovered that bananas have excellent taste in music. How could have SB known that Blink-182 is my favorite band!?
While spinning records and hanging out, a sad song came on, and SB was reminded of different times when life was spent with the family bunch hanging from a tree. Oh, to be young again.
In an attempt to cheer Small Banana up, I suggested a nice, warm beverage.
After a hearty cup of chai, SB and I sat down to get some studying done to prepare for the test I had that day.
All that hard HTML work really made Small Banana tired, but I had a special spot all prepared for while I was in class.
SB had yet to see the part of campus where I have class, so we took our time observing on the way there.
After the test (which I passed with flying colors, thanks to Small Banana's excellent study skills) we waited outside until it was time to go to my next class. It was an unusually warm day for Oneonta, NY in November, so we took full advantage of our ability to soak up some sun.
Alas, our time in the sun had to come to an end, and we had to go to my music law class.
Post-class, I was feeling hungry, and so we headed to the dining hall to grab lunch. An interesting development in our journey occurred:
With these two wrapped up in conversation, I was able to eat lunch quick so I could head home just in time for my favorite part of the day: nap time.
After a long, well-deserved rest, it was time to get ready to eat dinner and go to my club meetings.
While I showered and got myself ready, Small Banana caught up on Wine About It, a weekly web show featuring Matt Bellassai.
Squeaky clean and in our comfiest clothes, SB and I headed, yet again, into the very place where we met, so that we could have dinner.
After a nice plate of pasta, Small Banana and I headed to my twice-weekly rehearsal for my a Capella group, Pitch Slapped. SB really helped lead the group to have a productive rehearsal.
On our way home from rehearsal, we stopped at a friend's building just to say hello, and SB was immediately attracted to a brand new hobby. I think Small Banana would do well as a rugger.
At the end of the night, we made it back into my room and were getting ready for bed. SB asked if we could take a picture to show off how the sun transformed a boring yellow peel into a luxurious golden brown one.
This is where Small Banana's life took a turn. SB said to me, "I've lived a great life today, and I'm ready to move onto the next one." So with a tear in my eye, I opened up that bruised and brown peel, so that Small Banana could be set free.
Small Banana is no longer hurting, and the time we spent together taught me to live life to the fullest. Appreciate every day, friends.
Rest in peace, little guy.
