These Slang Words Need To Come Back

Trying to keep up with slang is an impossible task for me. Picture an old woman who keeps mistaking her TV remote for a phone. I just don’t get it. The Online Slang Dictionary has become my friend and I’m tired of having to rely on it. I find myself there often in order to figure out exactly what people are saying. I feel I would be better displayed as an old lady listening to a bunch of kids saying, “What is it you kids say these days?” rather than 21 and in college. If you are anything like me, and I hope there are some of you out there, then this article is for you.

It leaves me with so many questions. Who comes up with these words? How do they become popular? How should you know when it’s appropriate to use slang? Is it only for Internet use or should you say it in conversation as well? One the biggest problems when using slang is staying up to date; making sure the words you’re using are still popular and you don’t sound like a fool.

Lately I have noticed a slang revival of some of the best slang words from the past and I’d like to see it thrive. If we are going to use slang, old slang is the best. It’s easy to understand. It carries a nostalgic feel. I will be sticking to these retro words and if you’re truly cool you will too. So, here’s a blast from the past.

Word

This is a very versatile slang word. It can be used as a statement. It can be used as a question. It can be used to agree in the replacement of ‘yes’. Word. Word! Word? See what I mean? Pretty great.

Outty

Next time you leave a social gathering try saying ‘I’m outty.’

Mad

Yet another versatile slang term that just can’t go out of style. Use it either to describe something as good or as a replacement for ‘many.’ Either way it’s mad cool.

Psych/Sike

Used as an alternative to ‘just kidding,’ this is one of my favorites, especially if you like to joke with or prank people.

amirite or Am I right?

This is pretty self explanatory. Am I right?

I can dig it.

Ditto

Basically just the coolest way to say ‘me too.’

As if!

Made popular by “Clueless,” this phrase should always be used instead of ‘yeah right.’ As if I would say anything else!

Bomb

Many different uses for this term have been around since the ‘50’s. It has meant ‘success,’ ‘the best,’ ‘cool’ and ‘failure.’ So really you can use this word in any sense and it’ll be totally bomb.

Scrub

“A scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from me.” So finally, ladies, use the word scrub next time you’re talking about a guy in pretty much any way shape or form.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
