16 Quotes To Inspire You As We Ring In The New Year

In just a few days, we'll be celebrating the start of a new year. Between confetti poppers and countdowns, New Years Eve isn't always the best time for focused self-reflection. With that in mind, I always try to set aside a little time before the big night to contemplate the past year and to set a few goals and resolutions for myself. Regardless of the events that have taken place over the last twelve months, the new year is a fresh start, overflowing with new opportunities. Here, I have compiled a list of an appropriate sixteen quotes to inspire you as we prepare to leap into 2016 and begin a new chapter.

1. "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right." Oprah Winfrey

2. "Whatever makes my soul feel good in 2016, that's what I'm chasing." Robert Tew

3. "Some people swear there's no beauty left in the world, no magic. Then how do you explain the entire world coming together on one night to celebrate the hope of a new year?" Claire Morgan

4. "This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change." Taylor Swift

5. "For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice." T.S. Elliot

6. "Well, we have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, and a little more loving, have a little more empathy, and maybe- next year at this time- we'd all like each other a little more." Judy Garland

7. "Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one." Brad Paisley

8. "May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art – write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself." Neil Gaiman

9. “Make New Year's goals. Dig within, and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year. This helps you do your part. It is an affirmation that you're interested in fully living life in the year to come." Melody Beattie

10. "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." C.S. Lewis

11. "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain

12. "Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." Greg Anderson

13. "View your life from your funeral: Looking back at your life experiences, what have you accomplished? What would you have wanted to accomplish but didn't? What were the happy moments? What were the sad? What would you do again, and what wouldn't you do?" Victor Frankl

14. "Everything you've ever wanted is on the other side of fear." George Addair

15. "Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." Steve Jobs

I hope that these quotes, along with your own inner voice, inspire you to make this upcoming year the best one yet. My wish is that everyone finds solace in their blank slate and seizes the opportunity to begin again. Cheers to 2016, may it be full of happiness and self-discovery.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
