Exam season has kicked in.This means that exams and finals will be kicking our butts for the next 3 months and raise your hand if you're not excited about that.
With these exams comes stress through the roof. To combat this I have a few personal tips on what helps me deal with stressful situations:
1. Coffee (and lots of it)
A lot of people say that caffeine makes them jittery and that they drink coffee to stay awake. However, I personally drink coffee because it tastes SOO good. But also because I love the warming feeling you get when coffee is going down your throat and being ingested into your body. It's beautiful.
2. Shopping!!!
Whether that be in the form of online shopping or physically going and touching all the merchandise in the store, shopping is great for destressing. I truly believe that retail therapy has never done anyone any harm because it's so calming and yet exciting but fun. Because even if you have a bad day or get a bad grade on a test, at least you got new pants out of it!
3. Listening to Music
I know all of my articles are about music but truly, all of my life is about music. I don't do, think about or enjoy anything else (except the things on this list). Turn on your favorite song, play it on repeat, play it LOUD, dance around (badly if you need to). There's no shame in having that one hype song, even if it's not in the genre that you normally listen to. Have fun and never be afraid to sing along! The stress will literally just melt away.
4. Watch Your Favorite Show
I mean one episode. I don't mean quit studying to binge-watch an entire season of game of thrones. I mean take a study break and watch your favorite thirty-minute sitcom. Really just anything short to take your mind off of those flashcards and that one definition you still haven't memorized.
5. Read a Book
I know you're like ew why would I? I honestly wish I read more books for pleasure still. Reading is a journey for your mind but in a healthy way. I think it's something we all, especially at our age, need to partake in a bit more often. There is so much to gain from reading, like a shared experience, vocabulary, and critical thinking that it can take your mind away from that boring book that you HAVE to read for statistics.
6. Hang Out With Your Friend(s)
Yes, it's completely okay if you only have one. Go see that one friend. Catch u with them, ask them how their day was, see if they wanna get ice cream with you. If you have lots of friends you can all go to the movies or grab dinner together. THe point is to step away from the textbooks and the papers and have a good time with people you love. And you better not take your computer.
So take these six tips and destress your day...or week.....or life.
