No matter where you go to school, every dorm room is equipped with at least one similar item: a desk. What many students don’t realize, though, is that their desk can serve many other essential functions.
So, instead of cluttering up your already small dorm room with excessive furniture, here are six other uses for your desk.
1. Hamper
Why buy a hamper when you could just pile all of your laundry on your desk? Hampers are bulky and take up a lot of precious floor space. Piling all of your clothes on your desk also provides easy access in the morning.
Gone are the days of waking up your roommate when you slam your dresser drawers shut in your rush to get to class. Just pull out the shirt you would like to wear from your pile and hope that you don’t cause an avalanche.
2. Trash Can
Trash cans can be small and fill up quickly. Instead of having to constantly take out your trash, pile your trash on your desk until your friends are forced to call the show "Hoarders." Then they'll just come to your dorm room and take it out for you!
3. Exercise Equipment
Looking to spice up your workout? Try including your desk! This adds an extra challenge that just can’t be replicated in the gym. When working out on top of your desk, you must have even more control over your body so that you don’t fall off.
You could do anything from crunches, to jumping jacks, to yoga on your desk. The possibilities are endless!
4. Snack Bar
Instead of walking all the way to the dining hall when you want to eat, simply use your desk as your own personal snack bar! Most dorm rooms don’t have kitchens, so the desk is the next best place to keep all of your food.
5. Health Services
Different illnesses are always circulating around residences halls. Instead of walking to health services when you inevitably get sick, dig up all that medication your mom bought you before you moved in, and turn your desk into your own personal health services.
6. Guest Bed
The beds in dorm rooms are barely big enough for one person. When you have a friend sleep over, give them their own little place to sleep! The small size of the desk will provide a cozy atmosphere perfect for your guest to sleep.
