We saw a lot of great albums from 2014 like Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour, FKA Twigs LP1, and of course J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hill Drive. But in the new year, there are tons of amazing albums to look forward to from our favorite hit artists.
1. Kendrick Lamar : To Pimp a Butterfly -- March 23
Known for his poetic mastery, Kendrick has developed another work of art that combines the racial issues that we face as a country with soulful tones and jazzy reflections of black music from the past. Meant to be more meaningful than abrasive, To Pimp a Butterfly is definitely an album to look forward to in the coming weeks. It was declared by SectionNeighty, in their First Impression piece of the album, that it is likely to be "one of the best albums of this generation".
2. Matt and Kim: New Glow -- April 7
With the first single from the album "Get It" already released on iTunes, New Glow is sure to be a party hit for the upcoming festival season. This pair is always able to have fun and create music in their own unique way that always is able to create good vibes all around. Following the album release, Matt and Kim are starting their tour from April through mid-May to give their fans a taste of their new music.
3. Passion Pit: Kindred -- April 21
It's been three years since Passion Pit has last released an album, and they have surely been playing with the hearts of their fans by posting tell-tale hints of their new work coming up in Kindred. Although most of the new music is kind of left to our imagination, Passion Pit has released a new single called "Lifted Up (1985)", a teaser video to one of their new songs, as well as announcing their spring tour.
4. Zac Brown Band: Jekyll and Hyde -- April 28
The band has already released three singles from the album, "Homegrown", "Dress Blues" and "Heavy is the Head", so their fans already have a taste of what is to come. Jekyll and Hyde is complete with 13 other brand new songs and a promotional tour coming in May to entertain audiences across the country with their country folk tunes.
5. Snoop Dogg: BUSH -- May 12th
A veteran in the music business, Snoop Dogg will be releasing his thirteenth (yes thirteenth) final studio album. The new BUSH album in May will also feature several renown artists like Stevie Wonder, Charlie Wilson, and a continued partnership with Pharell. The first single "Peaches N' Cream" was released on March 10th, but fans will have to wait a little longer before they get to enjoy Snoop Dogg's final album.
6. Kanye West: So Help Me God -- TBA
We are all used to Kanye's antics on stage, on screen and the controversy that his albums usually produce. Besides this, it is hard not to look forward to his upcoming album. But still Kanye keeps us guessing with his So Help Me God album, since we don't quite know when it is coming out. All we do know is that Drake has been proclaimed his inspiration for writing these songs and a motivator for him to step up his game in the music business. So let's just keep our eyes and ears open for a leak in the upcoming few months.
