The Great Things About Catholic High School

Six Things I Will Miss About Going To A Catholic High School

I have spent my entire educational career in a Catholic school. Even though I have complained about thousands of times, there really is something great about going to a Catholic school, high school in particular. Moving forward, I now there are some things I am going to miss about Catholic high school.

1. As cliché as it sounds, I am actually going to miss my uniform.

While it may not have been the prettiest or most flattering outfit in the world, I was always comfortable in it. It was also nice that everyone, regardless of who they were outside of school, was all the same. I never had to worry about picking out what I was going to wear to school the next day. I never felt uncomfortable or self-conscious in my uniform, because I looked just like everyone else.

2. Even though I have probably complained about them a thousand times, I will truly miss my teachers.

I think everyone realizes that teachers at Catholic schools don’t really get paid much. This means that they are teaching because they love their students and are passionate about what they do. I have been able to connect with a large majority of my teachers on a personal level, which is something I do not believe I would have the chance to do if I had gone to a public school.

3. Once again, even though I may have complained about going to Mass during school, I will miss it.

It was nice to have a break once a week to get the whole school together to worship God. It gives a unique bond to students, because although they all may not see eye to eye on everything, they can at least come together once a week for Mass.

4. One of the best things about going to a Catholic high school, or any Catholic institution, is that everything that is learned has one common ground.

Everything we learn can be related back to God and our religion. This allows for the things we learn to have a greater meaning and all of our subjects to be rooted in Christ.

5. While this may not be true for everyone, I loved that I was in a small class.

This gave me the opportunity to know each of my classmates more than just saying hi to them in the hallway every once in awhile. I knew a lot about each of my 50 classmates, which allowed for me to really know and appreciate the people I went to highschool with.

6. Along with the small class size, going to a Catholic high school created a small community which I was immersed in.

You truly know everyone around you, whether it be parents, teachers or coaches. Everywhere I went I had someone saying hello to me. I felt like I had a community behind me and cheering me on in everything I did. It’s comforting to know that as I move onto college, I will still have this community behind me, supporting me in all that I do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
