Six Reasons Why I Am Impatiently Awaiting Autumn

I'm impatiently waiting for the fall season to roll in bringing with it the cool weather and changing of leaves. October through December is the best time of year. No question about it. As someone whose favorite holiday is Halloween and favorite outfit is a big comfy sweater and boots, I'm eager to welcome the change of seasons. Here are 6 things to look forward to as fall approaches:

1. Cool weather and changing of leaves

When the weather starts to cool and you start to see leaves on the ground, fall is on its way. I adore chilly, windy days when it's cool outside and leaves are blowing around. Autumn is such a beautiful time of year because nature brings out its array of oranges and reds. The transition from summer to winter is so pleasant that it feels like it makes for better days.

2. Sweaters, scarves, & boots

I love bundling up in warm clothes. I'm tired of wearing shorts and sandals. Bring on the oversized sweaters and scarves! Layering in cooler weather not only makes for cute outfits, but it's also so comfortable. Wearing warm, snuggly clothes in fall makes me feel like I'm always wearing my pajamas. It's heavenly.

3. Halloween

Halloween is my, hands down, favorite holiday. I love anything and everything spooky. Scary movie marathons, costumes, jack-o-lanterns, fall festivals... what more could you ask for? I love Halloween so much that I start brainstorming costume ideas literally 6 months in advance. We have the whole month of October to get us in the holiday spirit. I love seeing spooky decorations everywhere from my neighborhood to my university campus. The only way Halloween time could get any better is if I lived in Halloweentown (you know, the Disney Channel original film).

4. Pumpkin-flavored everything

Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin-scented candles, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice candy, pumpkin spice pastries... the list goes on and on. Starbucks really knew what they were doing when they introduced the pumpkin spice latte. What pairs better with cool weather than drinking a warm pumpkin-flavored beverage?

5. The smell of autumn

I can't pinpoint the exact smell of autumn, but I know that you know what I'm talking about. It's a mix of spiced apples, cinnamon, a crackling fire, and pumpkin. Everything just smells better in the fall, even nature. I love coming home from school and smelling a spiced candle as soon as I open the door. I know we can all relate to those autumn Yankee candles that all of our moms burn during this time of year.

6. Bonfires

Bonfires are great because all you need is a fire and friends. Snuggle up in a blanket, roast some marshmallows, and have a great time with friends and family. The smell of the fire and s'mores is a magical combination that I just can't get enough of.

So here you go. Six reasons to be looking forward to the next few months to come. Even if fall isn't your favorite season, you have to admit that it's a super pleasant, cozy time of year.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
