University of Louisiana at Lafayette Panhellenic Council

Fall 2016 Panhellenic Recruitment is August 31-September 5th, 2016! Although there are many reasons why you should consider going Greek, here's 6 reasons why you should go Greek at UL:

1. Greek Life at UL is highly respected on campus and in the community.

The Greek system at UL is respected by so many because of their dedication and involvement on campus and in the community. By being Greek, you can make an impact on so many levels. Whether you're volunteering in the local community, raising money for your national philanthropy, being involved in organizations around campus, or being a leader on campus, you will be respected by so many for your hard work.

2. You will never be alone.

Not only will you have the love and support of your sisters, but you will have an entire community cheering you on. You will make friends in other sororities who will be your closest friends. You will all be bonded by the sisterhood you have found in Greek life. No matter the letters, you can count on these women for late night food runs, ice cream outings when you're sad, and endless love and support whenever you need it.

3. You will become a leader on campus.

Becoming involved in Greek life opens up endless opportunities. Since joining Greek life, I have become a leader in my chapter and on my campus. Because of my sisters and their influence, I have joined organizations that I would have never given a chance if it weren't for them. They have motivated me to be a better student and leader on campus. Contrary to "popular" belief, my sorority does not hinder my academic performance, instead, my sorority encourages academic excellence and expects nothing less from its members.

4. It goes beyond just four years.

Or three, or two, or one. No matter how long you're a member of your chapter, being Greek isn't a one-two-three-four-five year commitment — it's for life.

5. It's more than T-shirts, socials, and parties.

Being Greek is so much more than t-shirts and socials. As a Greek woman, you are involved in a number of different organizations, you promote your philanthropy — along with other Greek's philanthropies, give back to the community and make lifelong friends while you're doing it. Sometimes, you'll find your very best friend after working on a service project with her or after grabbing Sonic after chapter.

6. Kappa Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Delta Pi, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Phi Mu and Delta Delta Delta

Six amazing houses full of amazing, strong, independent, involved, beautiful, loving, inspiring and well-rounded women. If anything, this should be the greatest reason you sign up for recruitment. Every single UL Greek woman has the potential to change the world. They are dedicated to each other, their sorority, and to improving UL in any and every way possible.

You get out of it what you put into it. Put your all into it and fall in love with Greek Life at UL.

Remember, it's never too early to sign up for Fall 2016 Panhellenic Recruitment!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
