Summer is typically a time for beach days, bonfires, baseball games and concerts. But when thunderstorms strike and ruin your plans for the perfect day outside there is one place that's always there for you -- your local movie theater. With plenty of star-studded films coming to theaters this summer, you'll never run out of great options to watch. Here are six movies I'm looking forward to seeing over the next few months:
1. "Me Before You"
Based on the novel by Jojo Moyes, "Me Before You"follows a young woman named "Lou" Clark who becomes the caregiver for Will Traynor, a wealthy man paralyzed in an accident two years before. Don't let the rom-com vibe of the trailer fool you, if the film stays true to the novel you'll probably leave the theater in need of a whole box of kleenex. "Me Before You" arrives in theaters June 3.
2. "Finding Dory"
Remember how much you loved "Finding Nemo" when you first saw it in theaters at the ripe of old age of eight? Well, it's time to rekindle that love as one of the most lovable yet forgetful characters in the Pixar Universe returns to the silver screen. Catch up with Dory as goes on an epic quest to find her family in "Finding Dory" swimming into theaters on June 17.
3. "The Secret Life of Pets"
Speaking of adorable animated movies, "The Secret Life of Pets" depicts just what happens when we leave our pets alone during the day. With a star-studded cast of voice actors like Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart and Ellie Kemper this animated film looks like it won't disappoint. "The Secret Life of Pets" enters theaters July 8.
4. "Ghostbusters"
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones teaming up to exterminate ghosts from New York? Count me in. This reboot of the 1984 film will be in theaters on July 15.
5. "Suicide Squad"
Superhero films more your thing? Don't worry, "Suicide Squad" is there for you. Based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name, Suicide Squad follows a group of supervillians who accept a government mission that will probably result in their deaths. "Suicide Squad" hits theaters August 5.
6. "Florence Foster Jenkins"
Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant team up in this biographical comedy-drama that tell the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York socialite who relentlessly pursues her dream of becoming an opera singer despite being completely tone-deaf. This charming film enters theaters August 12.
So the next time you're faced with spending a day inside this summer, head over to your closest theater and check out one of these films.
