I'M ALIVE! After spending the last four days in a hotel with over 600 of my sisters from more than 240 chapters across the country, I am proud to say that I am a Greek woman. This was my first conference ever.
Of course you are there to learn about the scheduled programming and listen to great announcements from your organization, but I also learned much, much more about what sisterhood really means. During my time at this conference, I was enchanted. From the oldest members there to the youngest collegians, I was stunned to find out that we are all the same, yet so different.
Both young and old were rocking their Kendra Scott jewels, over-sized tees, and were ready to "throw what you know" the minute they saw a camera closing in. I even caught someone saying, "Hey, Jack Rogers should really be the unofficial partner of this conference!" Everyone looked fabulous, but it was in the midst this sea of Lilly prints that I realized the true meaning of sisterhood.
It is the sister zipping another sister's dress up while they wait for the elevator to reach them at the 16th floor. It is the sister who offers to trade her potatoes for more green beans at dinner. It is the sister who will take as many pictures as necessary to ensure that her other sisters get the perfect Instagram post (because if you didn't Insta, did it even happen?). It was in these small, intimate moments, invisible to the average person, that I realized that sisterhood transcends far beyond the chapters on our campuses.
I truly believe I experienced something magical this week — seeing sisters who were college students 20 or even 30 years ago hugging and kissing while strutting around in photo booth props like huge boas, giant sunglasses, and little mustaches, all the while holding out their iPhones in the hopes that someone would capture the perfect "fake candid" to post on Facebook. Sisterhood is a bond that forms instantly, at introduction, and truly lasts forever.
